Just over 2 hrs drive from Auckland, Hamilton or Tauranga, the Mussel Bed is an ideal base to explore the beautiful Coromandel. The guest wing is nestled amidst native bush, gardens & streams. 5 mins walk to beautiful Cooks Beach. Hot Water Beach & Cathedral Cove only 10 mins drive. The convenient quaint passenger ferry is 5 mins drive to Ferry Landing & works on demand to Whitianga cafes & township. Don't miss "Lost Spring" thermal pools & garden while you're here! There is 3 luxurious suites each with their own ensuite & private deck. Choose from 2 spacious double rooms with queensize beds - the Victorian or the Pacifica Suite or the Beachhut Suite accommodates 2-4 people, with twin beds on upstairs loft & queensize bed below. Guests can enjoy a delicious gourmet breakfast with hot and continental dishes served on a tray to you in the garden, deck or in the privacy of your room.
Three rooms have queen beds. All 3 suites are side by side in our guest wing (Victorian, Beachhut and Pacifica Suites) and have a queensize bed and ensuite bathroom - perfect for 2 or 3 couples travelling together. All have their own ensuite bathroom with wet shower, fully tiled and modern fittings.
Sleeps 4 comfortably plus 2 extra foldup beds for children. Ideal for 1 or 2 couples or small family groups. Two bedrooms with kitchen bathroom and private deck for bbq and outdoor dining. Features a large spacious upstairs lounge and bedroom with french doors opening on to a 'juliet' balcony. Special breakfast hamper for your first night of stay.
Full continental & cooked breakfast - the menus are created daily and focus on food grown on the Coromandel (free range eggs, honey and the own homegrown fruit & veges). Breakfast is brought to you on a tray to enjoy in the garden - try the delicious homemade granola and homebaked bread, yoghurt drizzled with honey, fresh fruit compote, irresistible pastries and maybe muffins to take on your picnic. New to the breakfast menu is the "daily hot dish" e.g. bacon & cheese soufflés, oaty pancakes with maple syrup & NZ blueberries, porridge with banana & maple syrup, scrambled egg & salmon on a toasted muffin.
Kayaking is very popular in the area and enjoy the natural bird habitat, exploring caves and walking on gorgeous Lonely Bay. Play a round or two of golf at one of the nearby golf courses. Take a scenic boat trip to Cathedral Cove where a massive natural rock arch frames the white sand and the clear water of the Pacific.
