The Kaimata Retreat is a timber built boutique lodge located on the Otago Peninsula offering sweeping water habitat views. The property boasts an architectural design using modern post-and-beam construction with macrocarpa timber harvested from around the property. Natural materials were used throughout, creating a peaceful enviroment for all. The retreat's interior has been divided into two buildings, one side comprising of two stylish rooms with an ensuite and equipped with guests laundry facilities. The other building has one room with ensuite and a comfortable open dining room, lounge and kitchen area. This exclusive location is home to the world’s only mainland colony of the majestic Royal albatross, a stronghold for the rare and private Yellow-eyed penguin, and the gradual return of the rare Hooker’s sea lion to the Peninsula dune lands, the Otago Peninsula offers a special natural appeal and is a busy crossroad of biodiversity.
The retreat is situated on 5 acres of coastal land, and has a planting programme in progress to continue maintaining the native flora amongst the burgeoning kitchen garden and orchard. This scenic location provides guests with private pathways that winds to grassy knoll's by the water’s edge. From the moment you arrive at this special retreat you will be delighted at the fabulous setting. Soak in the views whilst relaxing with a glass of NZ wine in style and comfort.
The Korimako Room boast a king-size bed with ensuite, seating for two with French doors facing the courtyard. The deck offers casual seating for two people.
The retreat boasts a wonderful location to enjoy your evening meal and offer guests an opportunity to sample the great southern bounty, foods sourced with the seasons harvest grown by local suppliers. Kaimata Retreat's seasonal chef creates dishes with flair and passion, using traditional New Zealand cooking methods with a wild and indigenous emphasis.

The retreat offers a range of facilities for guest to enjoy including use of wildlife reference books available from retreat library, binoculars and viewing scopes, board games and puzzles, current magazine's on NZ lifestyle and nature, daily newspaper, outdoor furniture available on deck and retreat surroundings, self serve laundry service, 24 hour dry-cleaning on the weekdays, fridge space, TV, DVD, iPod connection, SKY and Video available in main lounge, New Zealand CD and DVD collection, all day tea, coffee, fresh fruit and homemade treats, internet access is not available, access is available at Portobello Village, telephone access from the retreat office, cellular coverage can be variable and dingy and Kayaks.
