Overview
In 1992 the owners of Capitan Suizo, Ursula and Ruedi Schmid, left Switzerland and moved to Costa Rica with their two children in search of new challenges and new adventures. They fell in love with an untouched piece of land full of tropical vegetation and some beautiful old trees, directly on the beach of a sleepy little fishermen’s town. After three years of “hand made” construction the dream of a small jewel, in touch with nature and in harmony with the country’s and its people’s philosophy was borne.
The hotel’s philosophy lays importance on supporting the local communities and the local nature and wildlife. More than 95 percent of the sixty employees are Costa Rican and most of them are from the region of Guanacaste. The hotel doesn’t use any pesticides in the garden and thanks to the protected old trees the hotel is often visited by wildlife such as howler monkeys, squirrels, a wide variety of birds, racoons, garrobos, iguanas and armadillos.
