La Posada opened as a Hotel in 1939, remodeled from a private residence that dates back 400 years. We offer 16 rooms with adjoining bathrooms, a Restaurant and Café. Our service is personalized and friendly, as we strive to make people feel at home, "En Su Casa", while visiting our Area.
The Posada has 16 rooms and baths to offer, all decorated in typical fabrics and regional crafts. Some rooms include fireplaces. As La Posada did not start out as a Hotel, none of our rooms is standardized, so that each is unique. Number 7, for example, was the home's private chapel. The rooms give on to corridors facing well-kept gardens, exhibiting trees, plants and orchids of the area. A relaxing place to read or just unwind in a hammock.
La Posada offers comfortable and nicely decorated rooms that can accommodate up to three persons. All rooms have private bathroom with hot water.
La Posada's Restaurant is a large attractive room, with a fireplace and two terraces that give out onto a garden. We serve meals from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily, (with the exception of Sunday afternoon, when we close the restaurant), then the Café can serve you. We have a large varied menu that satisfies all tastes. We include local specialties, for the adventurous gourmet. The Café, at the far end of the building, looks out on the park, the center of town and the Cathedral. This is a good vantage point to watch the comings and goings of Cobán, while snacking and relaxing on the terrace. We also serve full meals.
Alta Verapaz, the land of the Q´eqchi´ Indians, is located in the cool, humid mountains of northern Guatemala. Cobán has an average temperature of 70 degrees at an elevation of 1320 meters or 4000 feet. The dry season, March through May, can be quite hot and the winter months, December through January, cold and damp. The area is mainly agricultural, producing coffee, cardamom, spices and cacao. The Verapaces have a large assortment of attractions for the intrepid traveler; bird watching, orchid hunting, trekking, caving, whitewater rafting or just becoming acquainted with the indigenous people, who to a large degree, have managed to preserve their language and customs. If weaving is your interest, we can arrange classes by local indigenous weavers.
