Managua
Experience Nicaragua and visit two of the most vivid cities. See Nicaragua’s history come to life while exploring Managua and Granada with the help of private tours. Managua has plenty to offer. From galleries, promenades and boat tours on Lake Nicaragua to extraordinary culinary experiences. Managua enjoys an array of local and international cuisine. For example a popular 'fast food' known as "quesillo" it consists of cheese wrapped in a corn tortilla with cream, onions, and salt. Nacatamales, the Nicaraguan version of the tamale, is a local delicacy. Steak preparation is one of the strong points of the local cuisine. It is often accompanied by a special sauce known as Chimichurri, composed of oil, garlic and herbs. After your visit in Managua you will transfer to Granada. Granada was established in 1524 and has a rich colonial heritage. While in Granada, be sure to admire the unique architecture, or better yet, do so while taking in a tour of the city by a horse drawn carriage. Conclude your tour with some time relaxing in Nicaragua Lake. Jicaro is the best place to find the perfect combination of relaxation and exploration. After a day of adventure in one of our signature tours, you might want to indulge in a special massage in one of our open air treatment rooms in our wellness center. By consultation, our therapist will determine the best combination of techniques according to your requirements or awaken the senses and let serenity and tranquility inspire you. Sign up for a yoga session on the floating deck and experience something extraordinary. In the end of the trip you will return safely to Managua for your departure flight.

Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua means, “Where the water extends” in the Nahuatl language. The rise of the lake dates back to prehistoric times. Evidence of early civilizations includes the “Footprints of Acahualinca”—dated back more than 10,000 years. We begin our city tour here. After a visit to the Plaza de la Republica and the National Palace, we visit the old cathedral (almost totally destroyed by the Earthquake of 1972.) We continue to a “mirador” (or overlook) near what was once the central city. Here we see the bunker of Somoza, now marked by a statue of A.C. Sandino—arguably the most famous person in Nicaraguan history. From this vantage, we enjoy a magnificent view of the capital and the impressive Lake Managua. Later, we visit the new cathedral and the Ruben Dario fountain. Lunch will be at an excellent restaurant featuring typical Nicaraguan foods. In the afternoon, we visit the Roberto Huembes Market and will see and be able to select from an extensive variety of local art and objects. Travel tips of Nicaragua
VISA/PASSPORT
A valid passport is required to enter Nicaragua for both US and Canadian citizens. Although there is a bilateral agreement that waives the six-month validity passport requirement, U.S. citizens are urged to ensure before traveling that their passports are valid for the length of their projected stay in the country. U.S. citizens must have an onward or return ticket and evidence of sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay. A visa is not required for U.S. citizens; however, a tourist card must be purchased for $5 upon arrival. Tourist cards are typically issued for 30 to 90 days. Canadian citizens using Canadian passports do not require a visa to enter Nicaragua for tourism stays under thirty days. In June 2006, Nicaragua entered a “Central America-4 (CA-4) Border Control Agreement” with Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. Under the terms of the agreement, citizens of the four countries may travel freely across land borders from one of the countries to any of the others without completing entry and exit formalities at Immigration checkpoints.U.S. citizens and other eligible foreign nationals who legally enter any of the four countries may similarly travel among the four without obtaining additional visas or tourist entry permits for the other three countries.Immigration officials at the first port of entry determine the length of stay, up to a maximum period of 90 days.
Please note obtaining a visa is your responsibility. These requirements change often and therefore it is best that you check with the Embassy of Nicaragua for the most up to date visa information.
HEALTH
Health insurance is required. Medical facilities are poor quality and not widespread. We recommend that you see a health-care provider who specializes in Travel Medicine. The doctor or health-care provider will determine what vaccinations and medication you will need, depending on factors such as your health and immunization history, areas of the country you will be visiting, and planned activities. For more information on travel requirements, visit the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website: http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/nicaragua.aspx
