The Canopy Lodge is a full service lodge specializing in nature tourism, particularly birds. It is located approximately 60 miles west of Panama City in the picturesque village of El Valle de Anton, right in the center of a gigantic crater of an extinct volcano. The Lodge is surrounded by the Cerro Gaital Natural Monument. The lodge consists of 12 bedrooms, an open living/dining room (with WiFi Internet), and a well-stocked library with natural history books and bird guides from several countries in Latin America.
There are twelve rooms in the Canopy Lodge, each with private bathroom. The rooms are located in two buildings. The facilities of the Canopy Lodge are new and well planned, the rooms are spacious and airy with views of the lovely grounds. Inches from your bedroom window, the cloud forest canopy is riotous with early morning bird life. Your birding guide leads you along a narrow forest trail beside the stream past a waterfall, then up into the cloud forest. This is Canopy Lodge, a unique place for bird watchers in El Valle de Anton.
There are four single rooms in a building located about 600 feet from the main lodge. Each of these rooms has a private bathroom and a ¾ bed, a fan, a towel warmer and storage space. We call this building the Canopy Cottage. The stream (Rio Guayabo) goes by very close to the Canopy Cottage and the sound of the water going over the rocks has a calming effect.
The main building has eight double rooms, each with a balcony overlooking the gardens and the stream (Rio Guayabo). Six of these rooms have two queen size beds and two corner rooms (#4 & #8) have one king size bed. The rooms are quite ample and have lots of storage space, an overhead fan, a desk, reading lamps behind the bed and a towel warmer in the bathroom. You may very well spend a whole morning in the balcony watching the birds in the garden or reading a good book
The package rate includes accommodation, airport transfers, 3 daily meals, entrance fees to national parks, all internal transportation, bilingual bird/naturalists guides, internet service in the lodge, wine with dinner.
At the Canopy Lodge you will be served three daily meals. Each meal features fresh and local ingredients and vary every day. Water and fruit juices are always included with the meal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the outside but sheltered dining room with magnificent views of the surrounding forest. At the dining table you will also have the opportunity to get to know the other bird watchers staying at the Canopy Lodge.
A swimming area in an idyllic tropical setting may be found in the gardens of the Lodge. Created by diverting crystal-clear water from the nearby Guayabo River, this pool has a year-round temperature of 76F—quite a welcome respite if you have been doing some heavy birding or hiking on our nature trails.
No water treatment is necessary here, as fresh water is constantly entering, and a natural drain sends water back into the river down stream!
The perfect spot for relaxed and easy birding, only feet away from your bedroom. We have several feeders where an amazing variety of birds come to feed throughout the day. Tanagers, motmots, euphonias, oropendulas and, even aracaris show up regularly.
The library contains many books, in English and Spanish, about natural history, bird guides, butterflies, best sellers, novels and magazines. There is also WIFI and a PC for the use of the guests.
