There are myriad experiences to choose from in Central America, and few are as appealing as a tour of Belize. This tiny country, located on the northeastern coast of Central America, is teeming with both natural beauty and historic intrigue, and there is plenty to do regardless of what your travel priorities are. Although it may seem difficult to craft an itinerary with so much to do, there are several destinations and activities that should not be missed.
Orange Walk district
Located about 55 miles north of Belize City - the largest metropolis in the country - the Orange Walk district is such an attractive destination because of its rich sense of history and cultural diversity. A walk through the heavily forested town will bring you close to remnants of Spanish, Mexican, East Indian and even Chinese influences. Today, there remains a number of Mayan ruins that are certainly worth a look, and it is also an appealing destination for anyone looking to get a firsthand look at Belize's impressively diverse bird population.
With its location on the East Coast of Central America, it's no surprise that Belize is home to some of the most stunning stretches of coastline in the world. These breathtaking beaches are on display on Ambergris Caye, an island located off the northeast corner of the country. There is plenty of opportunity for exploration on Ambergris Caye, and it is among the most popular diving destinations in the world thanks in large part to its barrier reef - which is second in size behind Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Even if you want to get out of the water, the town of San Pedro is a thriving hub of activity that will surely leave a lasting impression.
Visit the waterfalls
Thanks to its impressive biodiversity and varied landscape, Belize is home to many impressive waterfalls, and there several in particular you should check out. Antelope Falls is particularly stunning, but it is the hike there that is often the main attraction. Trekking through Mayflower Bocawina National is an experience in itself, and you are rewarded for the journey by coming upon Antelope and its refreshing emerald pool. Other must-see falls include the Five Sisters Falls and Big Rock Falls.
(San José, Arenal, Manuel Antonio)
Experience the exotic as a family, as you climb waterfalls, explore cloud forests, swim in waterfalls and try your hand at tortilla making. With the support of a private guide and driver, this is sure to be a memorable and relaxing trip of a lifetime.
(Mountain Pine Ridge)
Bask on sandy white beaches, snorkel with sharks and stingrays, and enjoy the relaxed pace of life on Ambergris Caye. Take the relaxation up a notch, when you board your private catamaran Aubisque, for a 3 night sail around the Cayes.
The centuries peel away as you trek through dense jungle to reveal the 3,000-year-old ruins of the ancient Mayan civilizations laid out before you, and your heart leaps as you reach out and touch the cold stone remains of a lost world.
