Samode Safari Lodge is wonderfully luxurious new place to stay at Bandhavgarh National Park. Located right by the new, virtually unused entrance to the park, it is built on the site of the former Anant Van. There are no other lodges in the area and it feels immensely private and remote. The lodge is situated in 11 acres of open grassland and farmland with a charming village and tree nursery to explore, just a short stroll away. The lodge comprises 12 sophisticated suites and villas. Each has open air and covered bathrooms as well as private terraces, large bedrooms and sitting rooms, and a sundeck. There is a sumptuous spa to ease muscles strained from trundling around in the jungle and there is a strong emphasis on sustainable tourism and the environment. The adjoining villages of Mardari and Gohori are the inspiration for the architectural language of the Lodge. The walls are constructed with the traditional hand moulded bricks and all building material has been locally procured. The Lodge also uses solar energy and does extensive rainwater harvesting to recharge ground water levels.
The Samode Safari Lodge at the Bandhavgarh National Park is an extravagant wilderness experience cradled in luxury and unusual sophistication. Located in the heart of tiger country, adjacent to the 450 sq. km. Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, this divine getaway is designed around a series of individual safari lodges with villas and suites. The inspiration is South Africa, the decor and setting is Indian and the ambience magnificent and hospitable - unmistakably Samode. Two main lodges with spacious lounges on the top floor open onto wooden decks with machans or observation towers for bird and wildlife sightings. Zen in a tree top setting.
The Samode Safari Lodge is designed around a series of individual chalets with a choice of guest suites and private villas. Imagine an elegant and inspired living space with a spacious lounge, a bedroom with a modern en-suite bath and a dressing area, a unique open-air bath court, a private terrace with striking views of nature in its wildest beauty. Picture a villa with luxurious decor, windows that embrace the outdoors, private pools and sundecks - all created to include the amazing experience of Bandhavgarh's natural splendour into the surreal sophistication of the living spaces.
Enjoy gourmet dining at the main restaurant, barbecues around a campfire or romantic meals in the privacy of your own chalet. Exciting cuisine and excellent wines, yes, right here in the middle of the forests, in the heart of India.
The 450 sq. km. park boasts the highest density of tigers in the world, and is best seen while on a jeep safari, or, whenever possible, on elephant-back. Apart from the famous tiger, Bandhavgarh is home to many wildlife species including the Barking Deer, Wild Dog, Bear, Cheetal, Wolf and the Nilgai, which can be spotted in the open areas of the park. Birds abound in the vegetation along the streams and marshes. Look out for the Little Grebe, Erget, Lesser Adjutant, Black Ibis, White-eyed Buzzard, Crested Serpent Eagle and the Egyptian Vulture, among others. The reptilian fauna includes the Cobra, Viper, Rat-snake, Python, Turtle and a variety of lizards, including the Varanus.
Besides wildlife excursions, conducted by highly-trained and dedicated naturalists, and sightseeing tours to ancient temples and nearby villages, there is much to do at the Lodge - a well-stocked library, a recreation room and an art gallery. A swimming pool and a fully-equipped spa with massage facilities.
