The botanical gardens of Lal Bagh, a beautiful gift from Hyder Ali to the city, were built in 1760. Its 240 acres contain more than 1000 tropical and sub-tropical varieties of plants and trees, some of which are extremely rare. It also features the flower-bordered lawn clock, just a few metres from the main entrance, and elegant glass house modelled on London's Crystal Palace.
The hotel is home to 98 elegant rooms and suites that have been categorised into Executive and standard rooms. All rooms are elegantly appointed and offer guest amenities like Internet connectivity, international direct dial facility, channel music, colour television with satellite programmes. The Executive rooms are located on the top floor of the hotel along with standard amenities and offer two line telephones. Guests in these rooms can enjoy a complimentary Continental breakfast.
Dining is a pleasurable activity in the plush and soothing ambience of the numerous dining options available at the Hotel. The Karavalli restaurant, above right, serves the finest delicacies from the coastal regions of Malabar, Mangalore, Karwar and Goa. From casual, all-day eateries to formal, fine dining, guests can look forward to a wide selection of delectable dishes and refreshing drinks. In addition, Northern Gate offers contemporary ambience as well as delicacies from the Northwest frontier of Lucknow, Awadh, and Kashmir. Lastly, the Potluck Café is an all-day eatery that offers Indian, Continental, and Oriental delicacies as well as an exclusive lounge, serving some of the finest Cocktails and Snacks.
Five meeting rooms, with capacities ranging from 15 to 200 persons auditorium style and 15 to 500 persons for cocktails/receptions are the highlights of the Gateway Hotel. Poolside and the Garden lawns are also available for the guests for hosting outdoor functions. Other facilities include Swimming pool, Mini-gym and Bookshop.
