Forsyth Lodge is a lovely and comfortable lodge situated in about 44 acres of jungle, situated near the village of Sarangpur, opposite the Madai entrance to Satpura Tiger Reserve. Forsyth Lodge is the first lodge to come up in the area, the guests can enjoy wildlife sightings and views in an area that is completely devoid of any tourist crowd. Accommodation comprises 12 individual cottages (8 twin and 4 double). All rooms are centrally air-conditioned, have overhead fans. The spacious bathrooms have showers but not tubs. Hot water bottles are provided through the winter. The bathrooms have hot running water. Heaters are provided in the cold winter months. The cottages and main lodge are primarily constructed of mud and wood inspired by local village designs. The rooms are light and airy with subtle furnishings which blend with their environment. Spacious private verandahs face out into the surrounding jungle. The main dining area and bar is double-storied with a beautifully furnished dining area and lounge with fireplace on the ground floor and bar, lounge, library and open terraces above. They also have a nice swimming pool.
Being the only lodge in the area, guests at Forsyth Lodge have the privilege of enjoying wildlife sightings in an area devoid of other tourists. The Satpura National Park is a spectacular sanctuary for game drives in Central India, and the lodge has access to fantastic tiger territory, as well as offering guests the opportunity to view leopard, sloth bear and a huge variety of birds. Less luxurious than some of the more lavish lodges, the emphasis here is on wildlife viewing. The guides at Forsyth Lodge are expertly trained and lead both the game drives and walking safaris. With a strong environmental ethos, all staff are employed from local villages, and the lodge has been designed to harvest rainwater and recycle all waste water. The lodge has donated several vehicles to the park and also maintains many hides inside the national park.
Accommodation at Forsyth Lodge comprises 12 individual cottages (eight twins and four doubles), all with large en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning and overhead fans. The 12 cottages are based on local architectural styles and each is built using local materials and decorated by the local villagers. The open fireplace and bar of the central building provides a comfortable place to relax after an exciting day’s safari.
Good quality meals are made using local produce and served around a communal table.
The guides at Forsyth Lodge are expertly trained and lead both game drives and walking safaris within the park. Within the lodge grounds, a macham (treetop viewing platform) provides a fantastic opportunity for bird watching.
