As one of the world's most populous cities, New Delhi certainly doesn't seem like it would appeal to nature lovers on a tour of India, but local officials are looking to change that perception. The effort is focused on the Sunder Nursery, which is being transformed into an intricate Mughal garden - the first step in an ambitious project aimed at creating the Central Park of New Delhi, The Associated Press reported. It's a work in progress, but the initiative underscores the fact that India tours bring travelers to a number of natural highlights - they just need to know where to look.
?Located in the northernmost reaches of India, Gulmarg is among the most unique natural destiantions in the world. Home to fewer than 600 residents, the town is a far cry from the crowded cities located to the south, and its proximity to the Himalays highlights its isolation even futher. However, there's more to Gulmarg than its remote location. It's an especially popular destination among winter sports enthusiasts because its snow-covered peaks are hard to beat. It's also home to the Gulmarg Gondola, which is among the tallest cable cars in the world and provides visitors with views you can't find anywhere else.
Not all the natural gems of India are located in the north, and Kerala is testament to that. Situated on the southwestern coast, the beautiful seaside vistas make Kerala among the most beautiful destinations in the region, if not the world. There are a number of destinations that are particularly popular among visitors including Varkala Beach, which features breathtaking cliffs along the Arabian Sea and the beautiful Eravikulam National Park.
If you're more interested in visiting the heavily forested areas of India than its coast, Meghalaya should be your pick. Located in the northeastern corner of the country, this city is home to some of the most densely forested places in the country. In fact, it is home to two national parks and three wildlife sanctuaries - certainly enough for even the most ardent wildlife enthusiasts. There are a number of highlights including the majestic Nohkalikai Falls, which features water cascading down the face of a 1,100-foot cliff. Serene Umiam Lake is also billed as one of the top spots in the region.
