The Augustine (5*) may be the city’s newest ancient hotel and is located in the picturesque Malá Stranathe in the heart of Prague. It opened in 2009 following an extensive restoration and refurbishment and occupies seven buildings including a 13th century monastery and brewery that was once home to the friars of Saint Augustine. Striking in their elegant simplicity, the guest rooms reflect the hotel’s monastic history. Czech interior design is celebrated in the contemporary European furnishings and modern art throughout, and all rooms have views of the courtyards, chapel or Prague Castle. The Monastery Restaurant is an European brasserie-style setting that features local and seasonal flavors of the Czech Republic. Guests can sample St. Thomas beer, still brewed following an ancient and secret recipe. Conveniently located in Prague’s picturesque Malá Strana district.
The hotel has won numerous industry awards since its opening in 2009 including: The Monastery restaurant was included in the Top Three Restaurants in Prague in EURO’s Top 50 restaurants in Prague edition of 2009 and also won the prestigious Interior Design of the Year award for Tom’s Bar at The Sleep Event Hotel Design Awards 2009. Additionally, the hotel also won Best Hotel at the Construction Journal Awards last year. More recently, The Augustine was included in Conde Nast Traveller's annual “Gold List” 2010, which features the best hotels in the world.
All spacious rooms and suites feature a range of decorative accessories inspired by early 20th century Czech cubism and are individually furnished. They provide stunning views of Prague, the adjacent monastery church and the Prague Castle. Completely refurbished in 2009, structures such as vaulted ceilings and original doors have been kept.
