Bristol is situated 120 miles west of London, and nestled between the Avon and Frome rivers. The sheltered waters of the Bristol Channel where the River Severn meets the sea ensured the city's growth as a maritime centre, and the city has been a seaport for a thousand years. Bristol is a vibrant, modern city, with two of the UK's best-known universities, an exciting and happening nightlife, and sites including the breath-taking Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol Temple Meads railway station and the SS Great Britain, the first iron steam-ship.
