Spend time in the Aeolian islands, located off the north eastern coast of Sicily in Southern Italy. Featuring stunning cobalt sea, windswept mountains and part of a huge 200km volcanic ridge lying between the smoking stack of Mt Etna and the threatening mass of Vesuvius above Naples, the Aeolians are the European Holy Grail for island-lovers. Collectively, the seven islands exhibit a unique range of volcanic characteristics, which earned them a place on UNESCO's World Heritage list in 2000. Enjoy island hoping, exploring the islands with their fishermen villages, great natural beauty, coves, beaches and more and choose from private chartered and skippered sail boat or motorboats to get around or hop on one of the regular ferries which commute between the islands (or do a mix of all 3!). Stay in authentic island properties which speak to the history of this magical place and enjoy the wonderful Mediterranean cuisine and local malsavia wine. If you are looking for azure waters, stunning coastlines, fabulous beaches, great food and wine and somewhere special to lay your head at the end of each days adventure then look no further...

Porto di Ponente
Day 2: Porto Ponente

Explore Vulcano island today by sea as you enjoy a private charter sailboat excursion for the day (7hrs). This Island is an active crater therefore the smell of sulphur is typical and there are a number of hot springs on the island. Indeed, many people come to this island to cure themselves against all sort of health issues. Enjoy the day as you take in the views of the island by sea. Since the boat is privately chartered you can take things at your own pace - drop anchor and have a swim if the mood takes you, go ashore for a walk on the beach - the nearby beaches of Cala Formaggio and Praia Longa to the south of this beach are lovely. One stretch of coastline of incomparable beauty is the one that runs from Porto di Ponente as far as Capo Secco, with a series of spectacular inlets and promontories. An option would be to pass by a grotto called the Grotta del Cavallo, which is located after the Testa Grossa promontory, and is navigable by smaller boats. As you continue your tour of the island, you will see the slopes of the primordial volcano, the lighthouse and a few houses in the area of the disused landing-stage at Gelso. Should you make your return south of Porto di Levante, you'd pass by the volcanic crater on your way. Immediately to the north of Porto di Levante, the sea water is warmed by smaller fumaroles (Acque Calde) that are located along the coast at a depth of up to a few metres. In the immediate hinterland area, there are the famous thermal springs, where you can bathe in a mixture of sea water and mud at any time of year and any time of day or night. Day 3: Porto Ponente - Lipari
Take a private port transfer in Vulcano today.
Leave the island of Vulcano today in the comfort of a privately chartered, skippered sailboat and make your way to the neighbouring island of Lipari, also part of the Aeolian islands. Stop off at a number of pretty beaches such as White beach (spiagge bianche) and the little town of Acquacalda en route. Other beaches that you could potentially stop at include Spiaggia Vinci, I Faraglioni di Lipari, Valle Muria, Spiagge Bianche (white beaches-pumice sand) and Pomiciazzo. In Lipari the most beautiful and exciting stretch of coastline is on the most rugged side of the island, from Quattropani when you are on land, but it is even more spectacular when seen from the sea. The enchanting view begins as soon as you have gone past the channel (500 metres wide) between the islands of Lipari and Vulcano. As you round Punta Crapazza you will see the little beach at Vinci and the crags of Pietra Lunga and Pietra Menalda (the lipari’s faraglioni). Next comes the promontory of Perciato, whose layered rocks have been perforated by the motion of the sea. Then there are Pietracacata and the rocks of Le Formiche. The rocky coastline continues unbroken as far as the beaches of Acquacalda and the piece of coastline marked by the pumice quarrying industry. Leave the cargo docks behind you and travel back towards Lipari, going around Capo Monterosa, where the woodland is currently being restored.
You will be transferred from Lipari port to your hotel by private vehicle and driver.

Meet up with your private English speaking guide at the Archaeological Museum of the Aeolian Islands who will bring you around the museum. This fabulous museum is one of the very best museums in Sicily, tracing the volcanic and human history of the Aeolian Islands. It is divided into three sections: an archaeological section devoted to artefact's from the Neolithic period and Bronze Age to the Roman era; a classical section with finds from Lipari’s necropolis (including the most complete collection of sensational miniature Greek theatrical masks in the world); and a section on vulcanology and finds from the other islands.
