Day 2: Rome

Discover "The Eternal City" of Rome on foot today during this 4 hour guided tour accompanied by a local expert. Be sure to have your camera ready as many photo opportunities present themselves including stops at the Spanish Steps, The Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon and Navona Square.

Rome is a great place for shopping. There are five main shopping areas: Spanish Steps & Via dei Condotti - This street is one of the richest streets in Italy and one of the best streets for shopping in Rome. The Via Dei Condotti is home to Italy's top designer stores. Via Del Corso – This busy pedestrian street runs from Piazza del Popolo down to Piazza Venezia. It is home to the famous shops like the Ferrari flagship store and Swarowski Crystal. Trastevere – This rather bohemian area of the city with its many winding streets is great for shopping and getting lost in. Be sure to check out the outdoor food market in Piazza San Cosimato where locals bargain with the vendors (7am -2pm).  Viale Marconi and Porta Portese- Viale Marconi is very good for shopping and is particularly popular with young trendy Romans. A bit out from the city centre, it can be reached by talking the Metro Line B to Marconi. It is about 15 minutes away from the Coliseum. Porta Portese is the famous Roman flea market which takes place every Sunday from 8am until about 2pm. Another place of interest for food and market lovers is the Piazza Vittorio where a mesmerizing array of fresh foods, fruits, fish and meat, run by people from all over the world is displayed. Piazza Navona & via del Governo Vecchio – The well-known Piazza Navona is a great place for art lovers, as the surrounding streets contain lots of art galleries and antique shops.

Day 3: Rome

Experience the Rome of emperors, citizens, charioteers, and gladiators on a morning guided small group tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, and continue after lunch to the Vatican Museums to see one of the most magnificent art collections in the world.  Start at the Colosseum, once able to seat up to 50,000 spectators.  Begun in 72 A.D., the arena was finished 8 years later, providing the scene for wild entertainments between man and beast.  Continue to the Arch of Constantine and Arch of Titus, and walk the Via Sacra from the Colosseum past some of the most important sites of the Roman Forum to Capitoline Hill.  Explore the center of political life in Ancient Rome, and then stop for lunch in the Baroque splendors of Piazza Navona. In the afternoon, skip the lines and visit the Vatican Museums in the Vatican City and see Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling. Your tour of Rome’s legendary art and architecture starts at the Vatican Museums, housing the most important ancient art collection in the world in some 1,400 rooms. With more than 65,000 works of art its would take a lifetime to see everything, but your guide will lead you to the best galleries to see frescoes, statues, tapestries, and historical maps by masters such as Botticelli, Pinturicchio, and Perugino. Then continue to the Sistine Chapel to admire Michelangelo’s magnificent ceiling and Last Judgment. You’ll also learn about other Sistine Chapel painters, including Botticelli and Ghirlandaio. This tour includes guide, entrance fees and headsets, lunch in restaurant, pick-up and drop-off.

Get ready to eat your way across Rome.  Begin this gastronomic experience at Torce's Il Gelato; offering visitors some unique flavors like chili and chocolate or black sesame. Locals also frequent Fatamorgana, where you can find all natural flavors like pear and Gorgonzola. Gelato per tutti…

Day 6: Sorrento

Today, why not explore the beautiful isle of Capri?

Just off the coast of Naples and Salerno, between Cape Miseno and Amalfi, a great rock soars like a dream, lost in the cobalt blue sea that surrounds it. This Mediterranean jewel is the island of Capri. The intoxicating fragrance of flowers, delicate splashes of colour, recollections of a millennial past and a peaceful charm, shattered only by the shrill cry of seagulls, are just some of the magical qualities of this mythical isle.

It is very easy to catch a hydrofoil (type of boat) from the pier in Sorrento, taking 20-25 minutes. On arrival, Capri Town can also be reached via a short ride on the Funicular (train) from the Port area.

Revel in the breathtaking views upon Mont Solaro - the highest place on the island (589 metres above sea level). You have the choice of either walking there, by taking the narrow street at the beginning of Viale Axel Munthe, or by taking the chairlift. Should you wish to relax and enjoy the splendid view of Anacapri and the gulf of Naples, the chairlift is a great option. The chairlift station can be accessed near Piazza Vittoria.

Take a 1 hour walk to view one of the most beautiful walks on the island. Admire the lonely Church of S.Maria in Cetrella. Alternatively, it is a 12 minute chairlift ride from Piazza Vittoria. While in Anacapri, consider visiting the villa San Michele, located on the north-eastern side of 'Anacapri, 327 metres above sea level. This is where an ancient Roman imperial villa was, whose ruins were preserved by Axel Munthe. They are now to be found in the garden.

Note: Hydrofoil costs approximately 12 Euros per person. A ticket needs to be purchased at the ticket office before boarding the Funicular.

  • Joy L. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

Private tours were the best. Enjoyed being able to stop and see sights big groups wouldn't be able to do.

  • Tilda B. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

Our agent Enrique was phenomenal. He booked every aspect of our trip, from transportation, tour and hotel. All we had to do was show up. Best vacation!!

  • Gary C. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

My excellent experience with Kensington Tours started with Michelle Callaghan, a consultant for Ireland and UK, followed by a very friendly and knowledgeable person in KT Air, ending with our guide Paul Wilson who my whole family loved. I am lucky enough to have traveled internationally for both business and pleasure for decades, therefore I have to compare. The entire experience with Kensington, from start to finish, was a 10.

  • Elizabeth M. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

I love being able to call Kensington and tell their agents where I want to go and what I'd like to see when at my destination. All I do is pack my suitcase and from the moment my plane lands, I am taken care of and looked after. It turns a "trip" into a "vacation" as well. It's hassle free, first rate.

  • Margarette H. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

We enjoyed the trip immensely! All our tour guides did a good job. I'd like to especially call out Alexandra from Lisbon and Javier from Toledo as outstanding. Our primary drivers Jose in Lisbon and Muhammad in Morocco were also outstanding! Special appreciation for our Riad accommodations in Marrakech which was magical!

  • Noor K. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

Very well organized tour . I will recommend it to every one who wants to travel. Excellent tour.

  • Rebecca K. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

Jaclyn was the best!!! I have already referred her to a friend! She was quick responding and really listened to what we like! Definitely will use her again!

  • Razieh M. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

Absolutely outstanding service. We loved it. Very professional staff and timely with schedules. It saved us a lot of time and we got to see a lot more than we would have done had we done this all by ourselves.

  • Ann P. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

Great vacation. People in Iceland are wonderful, cordial, friendly.

  • Santanu D. — August 10, 2016 — Europe

Your tours are not inexpensive but worth every penny of the extra cost. You do your homework and the guides are superb. Your service during the trip is personal and responsive. I have seen this in three continents.
