Lisbon and Porto (and a myriad of sights in between) are two jewels in an often unfairly overlooked travel destination - Portugal. Lisbon boasts a number of distinct neighbourhoods - each with their own, distinct charm, from Alfama - the traditional old quarter, to Belém, the city's most monumental and historical area. The Portugese are blessed with a temperate climate and a long, fertile coastline - both of which help to provide a fabulous smorgasbord of fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood which in turn is reflected in their regional cuisine. The locals also tend to have somewhat of a sweet tooth and the many varieties of cakes and sweets to be found in most towns are evidence of this! Wine and port are also important aspects of Portuguese life - none more so than in the Duoro region, which includes the pleasant city of Porto.
Spend your time in the company of informative guides as you visit various places of interest, taste a cornucopia of regional goods, and stay in fabulous accommodations.
The Bairro Alto Hotel (5*) in Lisbon reflects a fusion of old and new and pays homage to the country's diverse architectural designers, while the contemporary Yeatman Hotel (5*) in Porto, occupying a commanding hillside position on the south bank of the River Douro, boasts a fine dining restaurant, a magnificent Caudalie (wine inspired) spa and sumptuous accommodations.
If culture, food and wine are your passions, this is the trip for you!
