Sighetu Marmatiei, is a city in Maramures County near the Iza River, in north-western Romania. Located at the convergence of 3 rivers: Tisa, Iza, and Mara, Sighetu Marmatiei is the gateway to Maramures. Visitors will find a large number of churches in the centre of town, among them the Gothic Hungarian Reformed Church built in the 15th century and the slightly younger Romanian Catholic Church. A synagogue and a Jewish cemetary tell the visitor something about the Jewish past of the town.
