In the fourball format, two players make up a team and play a better ball against the other team. When playing this format, it is critical that the more accurate driver hits first. This usually means the shorter of the two would get his ball in play, allowing the longer hitter to play more aggressively off the tee. Having one ball in play at all times lessens the pressure. Also, it is important that the two players are familiar with each other's games so that there are no surprises out there.

Located only 30 minutes from Edinburgh, Craigielaw golf course is a Championship links course designed by Donald Steel. Inspired by the great links courses of Britain, particularly those on land which are less dominated by dunes, Craigielaw is equal to many of the finest examples of such courses; some of which are conveniently located nearby in the East Lothian area. With challenging greens, cavernous bunkers and spectacular views over the Firth of Forth, Gullane Hill and out towards Edinburgh and Fife, Craigielaw Golf Club is an experience not to be missed.
North Berwick (45 mins drive from Edinburgh) Golf Club is a club steeped in tradition dating from 1832, and provides generous hospitality and a testing golf challenge. The course is a traditional links, which like St Andrews, starts and finishes at the clubhouse within the town, having wound its way along the Firth of Forth. There are stunning views over white sandy beaches, islands and across to the hills of the East Neuk of Fife.
Alternatively, you may like to choose to play one of the famous courses at Gullane (1 hour drive from Edinburgh) , beautifully situated alongside the East Lothain shore and near the historic Club House Pub where you may like to take your lunch. Gullane Golf Club offers championship quality links golf courses with dramatic views across the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh and Fife. The three golf courses do not have names but simply numbers which reflect their age. Gullane No. 1 has a long history of hosting international Championship golf events and is an Open Championship Qualifying course. The No. 1 Course will be hosting local final qualifying for the Open in 2013 when the Championship is played at Muirfield. Gullane No.2 has also been used for Open Championship Qualifying and the Seniors Open Amateur. Gullane No.3, whilst being the shortest of the three golf courses, still provides a stern challenge for golfers of all abilities.
Please let your Sales Advisor know if you would like to have a round of golf pre-arranged for you and this can be added to your itinerary.
