The Transcantabrico Gran Lujo multi-day train journey was created with the most discerning of clients in mind. Traveling between San Sebastian and Santiago de Compostella (in both directions), the completely refurbished train now boats panoramic lounges with large windows and luxurious decor. The 14 all-suite cabins on board are well appointed and have either a double or two twin beds with the option of an extra bed.
Following in the footsteps of the El Transcantábrico Classico which started to run in 1983 along the same railway lines as the old coal trains of the historic La Robla Railway, which took coal from León to Biscay, the luxurious El Transcantabrico Gran Lujo train journey is a 14 all-suite multi day train journey which spans San Sebastian and Santiago de Compostella. The completely refurbished train now boats panoramic lounges with large windows and luxurious decor, while the 14 all-suite cabins on board are well appointed and have either a double or two twin beds with the option of an extra bed.
Each Deluxe Suite on the El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo, has a 1.5m x 2.0m bed, while some suites have the option of two individual beds. Cabins are equipped with individually controlled air conditioning, a computer with complimentary internet access, videogames with console, a convertible sofa (which converts into an extra bed if required), TV and DVD player, and a large bathroom with sauna and hydro-massage.

As you travel along the coast of the Cantabrian Sea and cross rivers, woods and deep valleys, it is obvious that good food must play a very important role on the route of El Transcantábrico. Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and Castilla y León are, in the opinion of the most fastidious chefs and gourmets, the regions where you can still find the best cuisine in Spain. The cheeses, sausages, meat, vegetables, fish and seafood are all universally renowned.
The restaurants on your route not only select the highest quality raw materials and have them prepared by the greatest professionals; they are also the ideal setting for tasting the local cuisine.
All menus include a careful selection of wines that blend harmoniously with the ingredients of each lunch and dinner. Coffee and liqueurs are also included.
The four lounge carriages of El Transcantábrico are the most unusual and beautiful places on the train. They are veritable rail treasures that are much admired owing to their exquisite design, their finish and the interior decorations. These are the common areas of the train, where over the more than twenty years of recent history and the century since they were built, many a lasting friendship has begun, inspired and encouraged by the congenial atmosphere.
One of the lounge carriages has a bar and dance floor. This is the “pub carriage”, decorated and lit like a small night-club, where lively entertainment is provided every night until the early hours of the morning. Another lounge carriage also has a bar where you can sit back and have a quiet drink. The other two lounges are for other types of entertainment, such as reading, enjoying a board game with your fellow passengers, talking or watching the passing scenery through the big picture windows. And wherever you are, you will always be served by our attentive waiters.
Passengers are offered daily newspapers, magazines, a thoughtful collection of books from the library, television and videos; all that you need to make your journey a pleasure.
