ICEHOTEL is built on the bank of the Torne river in Jukkasjärvi every year, using only snow and ice from the river - about 1,000 tons of ice and 30,000 cubic meters of "snice" - a mix of ice and snow made by Torne river water using snow cannons. You can choose between several different types of accommodation - the ideal is to combine one cold night in the IceHotel with several warm nights in either a hotel room or hotel chalet. Warm accommodations include the Kaamos hotel room, Nordic Hotel Chalet (2 bedrooms suitable for up to 4 people) and the Arctic Chalet (2 bedrooms suitable for up to 3 people). The cold rooms are made of ice and the bed you'll sleep on is made of blocks of ice, a wooden base and a mattress covered with reindeer skin. Instead of a door, you pull a curtain in front of it. (The snow walls are very sound isolating, so a loudly snoring neighbour will not keep you awake!). Inside the IceHotel, the temperature is never colder than -5 °C to -8 °C, regardless of how cold it may be outside. When not out enjoying some winter activity, relax in the Icebar and sip on colorful ice drinks, or curl up by the fire with a book or mingle in the lounge.
