The pretty and compact town of Lucerne has plenty to keep one happily occupied for a number of days. The Chapel Bridge - the town's landmark was constructed in the first half of the 14th century as part of the city's fortifications and names after St Peter's chapel which is located nearby. The octagonal Water Tower was a former archive, treasury, prison and torture chamber. The dying Lion of Luverne is one of the world's most famous monuments and was carved out of natural rock in memory of the heroic deaths of the Swiss mercenaries at the Tuileries in 1792. A pleasant stroll can be had by walking through the various squares in the old city. Historical buildings clad in frescos border the Old Town on the right bank of the River Reuss at a few picturesque squares. The Weinmarkt, where Lucerne swore a federal oath with the cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden in 1332, is especially attractive. Equally attractive is the Hirschenplatz square, named after an old inn dating from the Middle Ages, and the Kornmarkt square, which features the Town Hall and the beautifully painted Pfistern guildhall. A part of the rampart walls built in 1386 is still almost entirely intact. Four towers are open to the public: Schirmer, Zyt, Wacht and Männli. On a cute side note, the oldest city clock, built by Hans Luter in 1535, is in the Zyt tower. This clock is allowed to chime every hour one minute before all the other city clocks.
Make your own way from your hotel to the Main station where the train and boat pier are located. Here, you'll board a boat to enjoy a leisurely cruise on crystal-clear Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad before ascending by the steepest track railway in the world to Pilatus Kulm, 7000ft high. On the summit, you'll have time to walk up to the vista point and to admire the breathtaking panorama over the Swiss Alps and Lucerne before taking an aerial cable car down to Fraekmuentegg.
At Fraekmuentegg you can alight as it is here that the summer toboggan and suspension rope parks are located. Enjoy the racy ride down the 1350-metre shiny steel channel with plenty of cool curves, dragon caves and inbuilt jumps.
Continue with the adrenaline kick as you make your way to Central Switzerland's largest rope park which incorporates ten trails ranging from easy to challenging, each with between six and eleven stations.Thrills and spills are guaranteed: each trail consists of between six and eleven features requiring balancing and climbing, and there are cool aerial ropeways and challenging obstacles. Climb your way up a tree trunk and check out the various degrees of difficulty of the monkey trees. The easiest climb suits children from the age of eight, while even experienced adventurers will find the hardest a challenge. It ends on a high: with a fall up to 14 metres before one abseils gently to the ground courtesy of the safety device. Imagine the rush of adrenalin when freefalling 20 metres! The Powerfan is a patented system that allows you to free-fall without the sensation of being held – all that links you to the Powerfan is a 6 mm diameter rope. A few metres from the end of your fall, a braking mechanism takes over that allows you to land gently on your feet without any jerking, jarring or bouncing. (Suitable for children 8yrs and older). The use of the facilities demands and promotes agility, concentration and determination and staff are on hand to instruct users in safety techniques. This is a great activity for all of the family as no special training is needed.
Once you have finished tobogganing and the suspension rope park you can take the next cable car to Kriens. Tired and happy, take the next public bus back to Lucerne at days end and make your own way back to your hotel.
Enjoy time at leisure to explore at your own pace, or relax at your hotel.

"All of our guides were beyond fabulous! Our time in Dublin was much too short, would have loved to stay there at least one more full day. Would recommend extending this package to 15 days for any future visits. The train to Edinburgh was super! Beautiful scenery and great steak pies!"

"Thank you for your follow up, we both loved our time in Croatia. It’s really a beautiful place, especially the coast. Your choice of hotels was great. It was an incredible view from the Bellevue hotel in Dubrovnik and the Vestibule in Split was in the best possible location. We were able to relax in our room listening to the wonderful singers in the courtyard and its central location made it so easy to walk anywhere we wanted to see with ease. "

"We just returned from a 10 day trip to Paris and Normandy. We spent three nights in Paris and then enjoyed a seven night cruise on the Seine to Normandy with AMA Waterways. The time in Paris was well spent and has piqued our interest to return for a more thorough visit. Guide Wafaa Lankey was superb in our visit to Versailles. The Seine cruise was relaxing and beautiful. So many wonderful little towns and we wished we had more time in each one to explore and enjoy.
We traveled to Croatia and Slovenia using Kensington earlier this year which was a fantastic trip."
