Head off the mainland during France tours to visit Corsica

Mainland France is home to many of the most popular destinations in the country, but if you're in the middle of a tour of France, you shouldn't avoid heading out on the water. Corsica is undoubtedly a must-visit when you're touring the country, and a trip to the famous island has plenty to offer. Whether you're looking to enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean atmosphere, take in the breathtaking coastal views or add some adventure to your journey, there's something for everyone.

Get active
Corsica is not lacking when it comes to rocky landscape, which makes it perfect for anyone hoping to add some challenging physical activity to their travels. There are more than 50 mountains on Corsica that top the 6,560-foot mark, so finding your preferred peak should not be much of a problem. If you want to visit the highest spot on the island, however, you should head to Monte Cinto, At nearly 8,900 feet, it is not only the island's tallest peak but also one of the most prominent mountains in Europe. If you're up for a challenge, you may want to consider trying to hike the famed GR 20, a 112-mile trail that runs north to south across much of the island.

Relax in the sand
With its place in the Mediterranean Sea, it's no surprise that Corsica is home to miles of beautiful coastline. In fact, there are approximately 200 beaches on the island, many of which sit under the shadow of its many majestic mountaintops. If you're looking for one of he most isolated beaches, Porto-Pollo is your best bet. The pristine sand and crystal-clear water will make it evident why the French Riviera is among the most popular destinations in the world.

Tour the North
If you're looking for some of the best natural scenery in France, the northernmost reaches of Corsica is a good place to start. Most notably, the coastal town of Bastia is sure to leave a lasting impression. Not only does this small village offers spectacular views, but its historic importance lends another intriguing element. Some of the other gems of the North include the Cap Corse peninsula, which juts out into the sea and is home to several towns that are worth a visit.
