The Downtown Hotel (3*) was built in 1981, and opened June 9, 1982. The main building was constructed to replace the previous property which burned down in 1980. The original structure, dating from 1902, was well known throughout the North for it's exceptional hospitality and service. With it's new structure, the Downtown Hotel has combined the look and feel of the Klondike Era with the most up-to-date safety and convenience features. Being locally owned and managed, this northern gem is able to provide better quality control and customer service.
The main building contains 34 rooms, a fine dining room, a lounge, a gift shop and a banquet/meeting room facility. To better serve there clients, the Downtown Hotel built an annex which opened in June of 1986, containing 25 rooms and a courtyard with a jacuzzi. This property also offers limousine service to connect guest with the airport, situated 13 miles from town.
Each room is complete with two double beds, telephone, shower/bath combination and a color TV featuring a movie channel as well as Canadian and American network programming and complimentary coffee. Also available are four deluxe suites complete with queen beds, bar and connecting doors to the neighbouring rooms. The Downtown Hotel is centrally located within Dawson City near many activities including the Palace Grand Theater with its Gaslight Follies and Dawson's famous gambling casino, the Diamond Tooth Gerties. River activities include fishing, biking, hiking, wildlife viewing, cultural tours, and many more.
