Located in Lee County along Southwest Florida's Gulf coast, Fort Myers has been nicknamed the "City of Palms" for its palm-lined streets. The major attractions are the homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford along McGregor Boulevard, which are separated by a fence called "The Friendship Gate." The annual Edison Festival of Light Pageant celebrates the inventor's contributions to the city. For beach-goers, Fort Myers' beaches have a laid-back feel and act as a gateway to several islands, including Sanibel and Captiva Islands. The beach area is popular for the busy intersection of San Carlos Boulevard and Estero Boulevard, where you will have no problem finding hotels, beach apparel, as well as bars and restaurants.
