Kahului is a census-designated place (CDP) on the island of Maui, in the U.S. state of Hawaii. Kahului is not generally considered a tourist destination itself, but does feature the Alexander and Baldwin Sugar Museum, Kanaha Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary, Kanaha Beach County Park, and the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. The port of Kahului admits cruise ship guests for excursions into the island of Maui.
Today your ship remains moored at Kahului until departure at 6:00 PM. Explore the island of Maui today from Kahului, an island rich in coral reefs, rainforest, volcanic peaks, beaches and waterfalls. There is much to discover here.
Hilo is a town on the Big Island of Hawaii. The county seat and largest city in Hawaii County, Hilo is the one of the best starting points to explore the eastern half of the island, including Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Most Downtown Hilo stores are located along the "Bayfront", or Kamehameha Avenue. Many of the activities that are available are strictly daytime, and focus on the ocean. Surf culture is big, and boards may be rented from Orchidland Surf, located in the Bayfront district.
Kona is famous for sportfishing, snorkeling, sunsets and coffee. It means “leeward” in Hawaiian. The northern portion of the Kona side of the Big Island is also known as the Kohala district. The weather and ocean conditions can be vastly different on each side of the island depending on the time of year and the predominant trade winds.
Kauai, the "Garden Isle," is home to several natural wonders, such as the Wailua River, Waimea Canyon, and the Na Pali Coast. Mount Waialeale is known as one of the rainiest spots in the world. Po`ipu, on the south side, is the major visitor destination for the island, with abundant sun and much resort development. Most of the major hotel/resort chains, such as Hyatt, Hilton, and Sheraton, have their main Kauai resorts in Po`ipu. Lihu`e, on the island's southeast side, is the civic and commercial center of the island, host to the island's main airport, county offices, and largest shopping mall (Kukui Grove Center). Kapa`a, on the east side, about a 20 minute drive north of Lihu`e, is the largest population center on the island. It anchors what is known as the Coconut Coast.
With your ship moored at Kauai until departure at 2:00 PM today, you have the morning to explore the area at leisure. One thing you'll likely notice is the thousands of wild chickens across the island, which were initially brought as food by the first Polynesian inhabitants.
This morning you'll arrive back at Honolulu where you will bid farewell to your fellow cruisemates, and disembark from your ship.
