Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans date back to the early 1800's, and have forever set the mood of the city: joyous, jubilant, just waiting to celebrate! Today, we’ll visit two of New Orleans most intriguing spots, Blaine Kern artists "Mardi Gras World" and The Presbytere Museum’s Carnival Exhibit.
The Presbytere, originally called the Casa Curial (Ecclesiastical House), derives its name from the fact that it was built on the site of the residence, or presbytere, of the Capuchin monks. It was designed in 1791 to match the Cabildo, or Town Hall, on the other side of St. Louis Cathedral. The Presbytere was then used by the city as a courthouse until 1911 when it became part of the Louisiana State Museum. Today it houses an impressive collection of rare artifacts integral to the understanding of the culture of Mardi Gras, from the mystery of the Bal Masque to the mayhem of the street parades.
Next, you will encounter the actual site where the fabulous floats for Mardi Gras parades are built, as well as the props, sets, and decorations for the extravagant Mardi Gras Balls. Guides are all well informed Blaine Kern employees, and the tours include the colorful history of Carnival in New Orleans. Both in the theater and in the warehouses, mannequins display the elaborate costumes worn by the kings, queens, maids, captains, and other attendants of the Mardi Gras Balls. Your tour is highlighted with King Cake, coffee, and beverages.
Your private tour includes guide, roundtrip transportation via private vehicle, admissions, cake and beverages.
