The Bariloche Big Circuit Tours a full day of exploration of the land surrounding San Carlos de Bariloche: the gateway to the Andes mountains and perfect panoramic views. This tour will allow you to witness the stunning seven lake district whilst discovering the pretty traditional towns of Patagonia.

We leave northwards along National Route 237, crossing the outlet of Nahuel Huapi Lake and the Spring of Limay River, geographical limit between the provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén. Following Limay River, we pass by the Amphitheater and then go on towards the Valle Encantado (enchanted valley) and Confluencia Traful, a region of transition between the Patagonian steppe and the Patagonian Andean forest.

Leaving behind Route 237, we take Provincial Route 65 west, towards Villa Traful bordering Traful River until we reach a natural balcony overlooking Traful Lake. The road continues bordering the lake passes through Villa Traful and heads towards Arrayanes Port.

From there we go on up, through a shady forest, to El Portezuelo (940 meters above sea level) where we meet the Seven Lakes Road going southwards and you border lakes Correntoso, Bailey Willis, and Espejo. Finally we take along National Route 231 towards Villa La Angostura. From here, there is an optional sail to Arrayanes Wood (sail not included in price - please ask your Sales Consultant for more details if you wish to add this).

When we continue our ride, we will reach Nahuel Huapi Lake once again and take National Route 237 that leads back to Bariloche.

Pick up from your hotel in Bariloche for a private transfer to Puerto Pañuelo, along the Nahuel Huapi Lake. Marvel at the beautiful Swiss-style architecture with beautiful gardens and flowers, characteristic of the  buildings in the area. The transfer takes approximately 1 hour.

Travel across the Andes with beautiful scenic views! The Andes crossing (Cruce Andino) programme, operates the route over the Andes from Argentina to Chile or vice versa through the Nahuel Huapi (Argentina) and Vicente Pérez Rosales (Chile) National Parks. The circuit departs daily* in summer and winter from Bariloche.

*An overnight in Peulla is required during the Fall and Winter months

Andes Crossing itinerary:
Please note all times are very approximate, not exact. The itinerary is subject to change and some of the transfers might take shorter or longer as they are shared services.

10.30am (15 miles/Boat) - Puerto Pañuelo  to Puerto Blest, approx. 1 hour
Board the boat and sail the Blest branch of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. On the way, you can appreciate the grandeur of the landscape with its mountains full of green forests.

11.30am  (3 km/Bus) - Puerto Blest  to Puerto Alegre, approx. 15 minutes
From Puerto Blest, you will board a bus for a short ride to Puerto Alegre.

11.45am (4 miles/Boat) – Puerto Alegre to Puerto Frías - Argentinian customs 
Continue on a boat to sail across the peaceful and pristine waters of Frías Lake. Here you will have a chance to see the Tronador volcano, an extinct volcano with an altitude of 3,491 meters, part of the Andes mountain range. The Tronador is located inside two National Parks, Nahuel Huapi in Argentina and Vicente Pérez Rosales in Chile and you may see it looking southbound. After a short voyage of about 20 minutes you reach the small port of Puerto Frias, where you will clear Argentinian customs.

12.30pm (27km/Bus) - Puerto Frías, to Peulla - Chilean customs and lunch (not included)
After clearing customs in Argentina, continue by bus to Peulla, located in the Pérez Rosales National Park. After entry formalities carried out at the Chilean customs office, transfer to Hotel Natura Patagonia for lunch (to be paid locally, not included).

03.30pm (20 miles/Boat) – Peulla to Petrohue,  approx. 1hour 40 minutes
Departure to Petrohue, by boat across Todos los Santos Lake form where views of the Osorno Volcano and Puntiagudo Hill may be observed on the north, weather permitting.

Private transfer from Petrohue to your hotel in Puerto Varas. The approximate transfer time is 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Depart from Puerto Varas with private vehicle, driver and English speaking guide for a short drive north to the city of Llanquihue, industrial town where the natural outlet for the waters of the Llanquihue Lake is located (the Maullin River). From this cute town, take a country road mostly used by locals and dairy trucks, on the lakeside, that will provide beautiful sights of the mountains and the bucolic countryside. On the way, you will see some of the main products of their region: sugar beet, potatoes, but above all, the salmon farms that have made Chile the third producer in the world of this delicious fish. By noon, Frutillar is reached. A village settled like many others by German immigrants, but unlike other villages, still keeping its European influence in its architecture and gardens. Frutillar is very famous in Chile as a summer resort, mainly due to its calm waters and its Classic music festival. A good piece of advice would be to visit its German Colonial Museum, an outdoor museum that transports visitors to the 1850s while enchanting them with scents coming from its botanic park, amid which, the museum is located. Museum entrance fee included. Return to the hotel in Puerto Varas.

Today is a day when you will experience life as a true local, otherwise known as a “Santiaguino”. Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and together you walk towards the nearest Metro station to board one of the most efficient and clean subways in the world, Santiago’s Metro (Metro ticket is included). In it, you will reach the classic and most important subway station in the city, Universidad de Chile where gigantic murals of local artists are displayed showing a piece of Chile’s rich urban culture. Upon exiting the station you will be in the middle of Santiago’s busy downtown. You will walk about the Stock Exchange and the classic streets, having a Santiago traditional coffee experience, in one of the many cafés called “Café con piernas” translated as coffee with legs…you will see firsthand where the name originates from.  After enjoying coffee (not included) we will walk through the Paseo Ahumada, viewing the different shops and shoe shine stands and all sorts of local characters. We will arrive to the main square or Plaza de Armas which is a meeting point for several immigrants from neighboring countries. We will visit the Cathedral. We will continue walking through Puente Street which is characterized by the large amount of shoe stores where locals shop. We will reach the Mercado Central (local fish Market) where we will see the different types of fish and shellfish that the Pacific Ocean has to offer. In this market we will have lunch at one of the many restaurants enjoyed by locals and generally unknown to tourists. Your guide will be with you at all times explaining local culture and helping you to translate and interact with shop vendors, waiters and anyone you want to meet.

After lunch at Restaurant El Galeon, walk across the Mapocho river to visit the Vega Central (local food market) here you will see the different fruits and vegetables that the fertile lands of Chile offer. After the visit walk through the Bellavista district, also known as the bohemian district where you will enter a local bar to try out a refreshing local drink called “The Terremoto” which translates to the Earthquake (drink is not included). After this stop we continue to San Cristobal Hill. On the way we try out some of Chile’s classic and refreshing snacks such as Mote de Huesillos or any snack that you feel like.

At San Cristobal Hill we will reach the top in the traditional funicular. From the top enjoy a panoramic view of Santiago from which, with your guide, you can track the places visited during the day. Here, your vehicle will be waiting for you to take you back to your hotel after a day of exploring Santiago and being a true “Santiaguino”.

After being met by your guide and private vehicle at your accommodation, you'll be brought towards Vitacura neighborhood to visit Alonso de Cordova Avenue boutiques, an elegant neighborhood where you will be able to visit the best shops in town and where you'll find “ Lapiz Lazuli “(semi-precious stone found only in Chile and some places in Afghanistan) jewellery shop. Continue on to Parque Arauco Shopping Centre, the largest shopping mall in the country. After getting your fill of shopping, relax on the drive to "Handicraft Los Dominicos town " where you'll find a plethora of traditional Chilean handicraft.
