Day 2: Buenos Aires

Meet your private guide and transportation at your hotel for a half-day tour of Buenos Aires including its ancient passages. The recently discovered ancient tunnels of Buenos Aires are one of the city’s best kept secrets. Depart for Plaza de Mayo, the city’s founding site and genuine starting point of Buenos Aires’ urban development. Next is trendy San Telmo, a former enclave for local aristocracy. In San Telmo you’ll get to visit one of the recently unearthed ancient subterranean tunnels, a part of a 3,000 sqm. labyrinth below the streets of San Telmo, made up of a long corridor with vaulted ceilings and display cabinets exhibiting many items and utensils recovered during the excavation. From ancient times, many myths have been created around the tunnels: people said they witnessed secret encounters, disappearances, murders or even political conspiracies.

Other areas that are included in your tour include La Boca, (which was strongly shaped by the working class Italian immigrants, with its make shift houses made from scrap materials found in local shipyards), Puerto Madero - Buenos Aires’ latest and most sophisticated neighborhood, and La Recoleta, where a short stop is made at the gorgeous Plaza San Martín, the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, (the city’s second oldest church), and the celebrated Recoleta Cemetery, an imposing labyrinth of ornate graves and mausoleums where some of the most important characters of Argentina’s political and cultural life (including Eva Peron) are buried. The last stop on the tour is at the area known as Palermo Woods. Next to the woods lie the splendid palaces built by the wealthy classes in the early 20th century to rival with Paris. After having gained deep insight in this culturally rich city, you will be returned to your hotel.

Day 7: El Calafate

A full day experience through Lago Argentino awaits today! Travel aboard the Leal cruiser to see the Upsala and Spegazzini glaciers. Transfer from your hotel in El Calafate to Paraje Punta Bandera. Boarding time at 9:00 a.m. at the boat company’s own dock “La Soledad” (Bahía Tranquila, Paraje Punta Bandera). The boating begins towards the northwest, crossing Punta Avellaneda and Boca del Diablo, the narrowest passage in the lake with almost 800 meters.

After two hours of boating through the series of ice of the most varied colors and shapes, we anticipate the proximity to the Upsala glacier. We will stop in front of the Upsala glaciers at a safe distance.

Continue through Lago Argentino towards the South, taking the Canal Spegazzini in order to reach the glacier that bears the same name. This allows us to get closer to the glacier, which has front walls between 80 and 135 meters (262 – 443 feet) above lake level. Lunch is served amidst this stunning landscape.

Towards the afternoon, the Crucero Leal will arrive at Puesto de Las Vacas (an extremely quiet bay in the Canal Spegazzini), where its engines will be stopped to let passengers share an amusing walk coordinated by the boat's team of guides. At this point, it is possible to see stunning panoramic views of the Spegazzini glacier.

Once onboard, we will return through Brazo Norte and get back to the boarding dock La Soledad at 6:00 p.m.

Includes: Los Glaciares National Park Entrance fee, shared transfers, navigation across Lago Argentino, visiting the barrier of ice floes in Canal Upsala (which at present does not allow us to get closer to Upsala glacier), and the stunning Spegazzini glacier. Gourmet lunch on-board with alcoholic and soft drinks included, landing in Puesto de Las Vacas, infusions and soft beverages during navigation, on-board activities conducted by a bilingual guide (English / Spanish),

Note: the itinerary is subject to changes based on the captain criteria to guarantee the passengers safety.

Day 8: El Calafate

One of the best things to do in El Calafate! Today you will go on a navigation in front of the Southern wall of the amazing Perito Moreno Glacier, tour through the captivating forest and do the minitrekking over the glacier!

You will be picked up at your hotel and taken by private transfers to the Bajo de las Sombras quay (port). Here you will board a ship for a 20-minute ride to cross the arm Rico of Lake Argentino (shared service on boat). The ship arrives at a cottage where guides will divide all passengers into groups made up of around 10 people. Each group is assigned two guides, one walks at the front and another at the back.

Together wih your group and guides, you will begin a 20-minute walk towards the glacier that begins on the lake’s shore and once you arrive at the edge of the ice, you will be provided with crampons and instructions about how you should use them on the ice. The trek over the Glacier lasts about 1 hour and a half during which you will be able to see the crevasses, seracs, drains and small lakes. The walk is slow, as you walk over an uneven but firm and safe ice surface. Guides will give short talks about the flora, fauna and general glaciology facts of the region and also some information about the unique phenomenon that takes place at the Perito Moreno Glacier and eventually produces its breaking-off. When the walk ends, you will return to the cottage walking through the lush magallanic forest. A boxed lunch is included.

On its return to the pier the ship navigates through the channel of ice flows and then approaches the glacier’s walls. You will then be able to get to the glacier's viewpoint where you will have the opportunity to walk along the pathways and admire it from different viewpoints for about one hour before returning to El Calafate.

This tour lasts approximately 6 hours (between navigation and trekking)

  • Karen S. — August 10, 2016 — South America

Everyone we dealt with was AMAZING - knowledgeable, helpful, willing to go the extra mile. I actually already have recommended Kensington Tours to my friends and family.

  • Dennis J. — July 20, 2016 — South America

We did not worry about a thing during our trip. All the people associated with Kensington Tours were awesome. Very detail focused with times and meeting places. Awesome group

  • Wendy M. — July 20, 2016 — South America

Our vacation was "perfection from start to end". What a great feeling it was to know someone was at each airport/train waiting for us, driving us to the hotels, checked us into our hotels and didn't just drop us off, discussed each days itinerary and pick up times - called us in our room to verify times. When they say they will be there at 9:20, rest assured they will be there exactly at that time. The drivers, tour guides and representatives Bruno, Mel, Thomas, Betty, Paul, Willy & Hilda spoke excellent English, knew their history of Peru extremely well. We asked all kinds of questions and they were able to answer every question as well as taught us how to say thank you in Quechua and Aymara. The hotels were outstanding and exceptional! If I over looked anyone or any other detail - you all were outstanding including Kelly and Maria who put this trip together bending over backwards to make every detail perfect. You have made the perfect vacation even more perfect!!! I will add my review to TripAdvisor. Thank you so so much.

  • Karen G. — July 15, 2016 — South America

We had an excellent vacation. We loved Peru. The logistics and quality of guides were very good. In particular, the tour guides at Machu Picchu, the Amazon and Lima historical old town were excellent.

  • Anne C. — June 30, 2016 — South America

The local guides were great, in Cusco, Machu Picchu and Lima. I really enjoyed having the same guide, driver and car for all activities in the Sacred Valley, Cusco. It really helped to make us feel comfortable. The accommodations were great, especially at Sol y Luna lodge. Everyone was very willing to help make the trip what we wanted and accommodate our needs. The timing of tours worked out really well and think the trip was planned according to our needs, including things we may not have even been aware of.

  • Bruce C. — June 15, 2016 — South America

Our trip to Machu Picchu was to celebrate our 15 year anniversary, it was amazing!!!! We are frequent travelers and don't normally use a travel company but did for this trip, it was fantastic. Everything was cared for, the tour guides were very knowledgeable and passionate about their culture. They truly took the effort out of this trip for us. We will definitely use Kensington again.

  • Charles B. — May 25, 2016 — South America

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Peru. The Kensington representatives took all of the stress out of the logistics and were very welcoming and knowledgeable.

  • Gerri G. — May 18, 2016 — South America

Excellent service from our Kensington staff contact, and terrific guides and hotels. All transfers at airports were seamless.

  • Mauricio G. — May 18, 2016 — South America

We were absolutely wowed and impressed by the level of detail in both the planning and accommodation of our needs. This trip was planned on a very short notice so we did not have high expectations. However, every moment of our trip from airport transfers, guides, sights to the culture of Peru were delivered leaving memories beyond our expectation. Thanks again to Nella and all guides in Peru.

  • William M. — May 18, 2016 — South America

All the guides were extremely helpful and courteous.
