Christ the Redeemer

Day 1: Rio de Janeiro
Meet your personal driver and guide for an airport transfer in Rio de Janeiro.

With 233 rooms and suites, there is little to dislike in this reasonably priced, comfortable and clean. Christ the Redeemer
Day 2: Rio de Janeiro
Begin a half day private guided tour by jeep starting with the statue of Christ the Redeemer located on the Corcovado mountain. Then pass through Paineiras road, in order to reach Afonso Vizeu Square, situated at the pleasant Boa Vista High. From here, you will enter into the heart of the exuberant Tijuca Forest, the largest urban forest in the world, and stop (15 minutes estimated) at "Little Cascade", a landmark of the forest which offers a small souvenir shop, a place to rest and a restaurant. You will be introduced to the interesting history of the Tijuca Forest and the importance of the Atlantic Forest to the Brazilian ecology and its fauna and flora.
The tour then continues, passing by the Chapel Mayrink, where you'll have the opportunity of stretching your legs for a walk of approximately 30 minutes on an easy trail, in which both the botanical and ecological features and their relation to the ecosystem will be highlighted. Your jeep will be waiting at the end of the trail to take you out of the National Park where you will pass through "Loneliness Dam" and "Chinese View". Here a breathtaking view of Rio offers a wonderful photo opportunity. From here, the tour will continue, passing by "Emperor's Table", where the Brazilian Imperial family used to enjoy pleasant picnics. Admire the views on the return trip back to Rio as you pass by "Monkeys' Waterfall".

Favela of Santa Marta
Day 3: Rio de Janeiro
Departure from your hotel by jeep, heading up Sao Clemente road until the favela of Santa Marta, located on Dona Marta Hill, officially part of the neighborhood of Botafogo, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. From there we will take an elevator to the top of Dona Marta Hill and stop at the Michael Jackson Statue. The community is famous for having been the locale of a Michael Jackson music video, where there now sits a statue of the pop star. The statue, in Beco do Curió, is located next to the Church of the Assembly of God, on the terrace of the favela’s House of Culture. After touring the streets of Santa Marta, we will stop at the resident's association and return to the hotel by way of the "Lagoa" (Rodrigo de Freitas Lake).

Day 4: Rio de Janeiro - Paraty
Private transfer and vehicle with driver/guide from Rio de Janeiro to Paraty by road. The journey should take approximately 4 hours.
Different from the other colonial cities of Brazil, the architecture of Paraty has character, originality and definition forming a harmonious monument to the XVIII century. Paraty today is a Historic National Monument as declared by UNESCO. The tour has includes a guide that will tell you about legends and history of the last century, visiting churches, museum, and old houses. The tour is perfect for taking pictures and videos.

Mamangua Sugar Loaf Hike
Day 5: Paraty
Depart for your round trip by motor boat through Paraty Mirim. Your meeting point with environmental monitor at Paraty Mirim beach is at 9:00 am and you will make your crossing by an inflatable boat (Zodiac) until you reach the fisherman village of Cruzeiro in Saco do Mamangua. The duration is approximately 40 minutes. Trekking will begin through the Atlantic rainforest until you reach the top of the mountain. The level of trekking is difficult and the approximate length of the trek is 2 hours. Upon arrival on the mountain, you will have time to rest, admire the secenery and take some pictures.
You will then head back to Cruzeiro Beach in time for a relaxing swim. Return by inflatable boat (Zodiac) until you reach Paraty Murim, arriving approximately at 4:00 pm.
This tour is through Paraty Mirim / round trip by motor boat, includes transportation, bilingual guide and lunch at Cruzeiro Beach.

Waterfall National Park
Day 6: Paraty
Enjoy a six hour private jeep tour inside the National Park of Serra da Bocaina visiting several waterfalls, distilleries of cachaça, the famous Gold trail and other attractions. This tour is an excellent opportunity to have a direct contact with the flora and fauna of the region and all its preserved biodiversity.
Departure is from your hotel and the tour begins in the direction of the National Park of Serra da Bocaina visiting the preserved area of Gold Trail which has a interesting exposition with pictures and history. The tour also visits Murycana's farm and its Distillery of Cachaça situated beside a little furniture museum. Then depart for the Tobogã’s Waterfall, a pleasant spot for taking pictures and the Tarzã Waterfall, where you can enjoy a pleasant swim.
After the swim, you will visit the distillery of Cachaça Engenho D’Ouro, where you can enjoy tastings, observe the interesting fabrication of the drink and you can also purchase it directly. Next stop is at Pedra’s Branca waterfall, one of the biggest of the region, a wonderful place to take pictures and enjoy swimming. On your return back to Paraty, visit the Exposition of Bromeliads where you can view more than 300 species of flowering plants.
At the end of your tour you will be brought back to your hotel by jeep.

Day 10: Foz do Iguaçu

After being picked up from your hotel, a scenic drive takes you through Iguassu National Park along the Cataratas Highway that leads to the border between Brazil and Argentina. Here, the river drops into a breathtaking canyon. You can descend a walkway and gaze at both sides of the falls and stop at the elevator to ride to the Brazilian side lookout point. Fantastic scenic and photographic opportunities abound, and your expert English speaking Guide will provide an educational and fun tour. At the end of the tour you will be brought back to your hotel in Iguazu.
You can’t miss this opportunity to fully experience the some of the most magnificent waterfalls in the World! After boarding the vehicles we will be taken 2 km along the rainforest, up to the Iguazú River coast. From there, we will sail 5 km up the River on the semi-rigid boats, struggling through the rapids, contemplating from the river-bed the majesty of water dropping from the different waterfalls and then we will start our way back. Tourist guides are in charge of explaining all concerning the tour. Degree of difficulty: low, no stairs. It is advisable to change clothes after this excursion and to wear raincoats. It gets quite wet!

VISA/PASSPORT
A passport and visa are required for both Canadian and U.S. citizens traveling to Brazil for any purpose. Brazilian visas MUST be obtained in advance from the Brazilian Embassy or consulate nearest to the traveler's place of residence. There are no "airport visas" and immigration authorities will refuse entry to Brazil to anyone not possessing a valid visa. Processing generally takes 10-15 working days along with a visa processing fee of approximately $106.25. All Brazilian visas, regardless of the length of validity, must initially be used within 90 days of the issuance date or will no longer be valid. Americans reentering Brazil must be able to show an entry stamp in their passport proving that the visa was issued within 90 days; otherwise they will not be allowed reentry. Immigration authorities will not allow entry into Brazil without a valid visa. The U.S. Government cannot assist travelers who arrive in Brazil without proper documentation. For remote, jungle or Amazon a Yellow Fever Certificate is required.

Health insurance is required. Medical facilities are poor quality and not widespread. We recommend that you see a health-care provider who specializes in Travel Medicine. - Your deposit is due immediately on booking (30% of program price, minimum $350). The balance is due 90 days prior to departure.
- Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $350 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.

- Cost increases in currency exchange, government fees, taxes, surcharges or hotel/lodge tariff increases between quote date and start date are payable by the client.
