Discovery Series: Fly the Drake Passage & Cruise to Antarctica Peninsula (Ocean Nova)

After being met by your guide and private vehicle at your accommodation, you'll be brought towards Vitacura neighborhood to visit Alonso de Cordova Avenue boutiques, an elegant neighborhood where you will be able to visit the best shops in town and where you'll find “ Lapiz Lazuli “(semi-precious stone found only in Chile and some places in Afghanistan) jewellery shop. Continue on to Parque Arauco Shopping Centre, the largest shopping mall in the country. After getting your fill of shopping, relax on the drive to "Handicraft Los Dominicos town " where you'll find a plethora of traditional Chilean handicraft.

Fly direct from Santiago to Punta Arenas. The flight duration is approximately 3.5 hours.

You'll be met by expedition staff and transferred to your hotel. During the afternoon, you will receive instructions concerning the guidelines that should be followed in Antarctica and the procedures for Zodiac boat embarkation and disembarkation. Later, you will be invited to gather for a welcome dinner together with your expedition mates and you will have the chance to enjoy a typical Magellan menu. 

Your Antarctic adventure will begin with a flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island (South Shetland Islands). The flight takes a little less than two hours.

Upon arrival, you and your fellow expeditioners will tour around the area where the Frei Chilean Base and the Bellingshausen Russian Base are located.

Awaiting Zodiacs will transfer you to your expedition vessel.

Take some time to get settled in to your stateroom before dinner on board tonight.

Your next 4 days will be spent sailing between the South Shetland Islands, the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, and crossing the Lemaire Channel, among others. Your adventure will be very active, with several daily landings and cruises in Zodiac boats, lectures and a very enjoyable time on board. Keep your eyes peeled today for some friendly company including penguins and seals.

Sailing the western Antarctic Peninsula, you'll be followed by many sea birds, and you're also likely to catch a glimpse of some whales. You'll do some Zodiac cruising today to explore this area close-up.

Your journey southwards will include visits to some of the most magnificent spots in the white continent, such as: Livingston Island, Port Lockroy, and Petermann Island. As with every day, you'll be staying active with excursions to explore this frontier territory.

Your final day before your journey back north will consist of Paradise Bay, Cuverville and Deception Islands amongst others. Your target will be the crossing of the Lemaire Channel and latitude 65° South.

This morning you'll return to King George Island where you will disembark, in Zodiac boats, at the Frei Chilean Base, and head to the aerodrome to take the flight back to Punta Arenas.
