Mashpi Lodge is set within a 1000 hectare private reserve, which is part of the globally important bio-region - the Tumbez-Choco-Darien - that stretches from Panama, through Colombia and Ecuador, to northern Peru along the Pacific slopes of the Andes. The area around Mashpi Lodge is world-famous as a biodiversity "hot spot", particularly when it comes to flora and avifauna. Mashpi Lodge is located on a high plateau, ideally situated to give breathtaking views of the forest and valleys from nearly every angle. The lodge, built with the latest techniques, is designed to blend beautifully with its surroundings. It features contemporary, minimalist design and decor, mixing warm earth tones and clean lines: a cozy cocoon amid the forest with the natural world just beyond, ideal for contemplation and relaxation.
The Mashpi reserve is located a mere two and a half hours to the northwest of Ecuador’s capital, Quito – the first city named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO – and is accessible via paved and unpaved roads. Mashpi Lodge was designed as the ideal springboard for exploring the biodiverse world of its reserve. It combines the highest standards of comfort, service, guiding and cuisine that today's most discerning travellers expect.
The Lodge is intimate, accommodating a maximum of 44 guests in 22 ample rooms with large picture windows, three of which are suites. For those travelling with friends or family, connecting rooms are available. Package rates include: - Lodging; all meals, non-alcoholic beverages; guided visits (English/Spanish) within the Reserve, specialized lectures; waterproof ponchos and rubber boots. Transfers from Quito hotels to the JW Marriott Hotel (departure point), Transfer out; visit to the archaeological site of Tulipe; snack.
Inspired by the rainforest and the huge diversity found in Ecuador, the chefs excel in preparing gourmet dishes that combine locally-grown ingredients such as platain or chocolate, as well as experimenting with an endless variety of delicious fruits: pineapple, mango, tangerine, banana.... the finest fresh organic produce, complimented by a carefully selected wine list.
Social areas include several relaxing lounges. Like the suites, these feature huge picture windows making guests feel part of their surroundings, where, at night, the only lights are the dance of a myriad of fireflies. Mashpi Lodge provides a Reading Room with internet access and an extensive collection of books and videos on the natural world. The lodge also features two jacuzzis, as well as specialized massages and treatments, may employing natural local ingredients such as earth, stones, herbs and leaves. A terrace cafe-bar and an internet centre.
