Situated on Avenida Charles Darwin and Piqueros, only ten minutes walk from the scientific station, Hotel Silberstein is definitely one of the more luxurious places to stay in Puerto Ayora. Only a stones throw away from the sea and just outside of the town centre, the atmosphere here is quiet and peaceful and one which would inspire you to relax.
Hotel Silberstein gives you the possibility to explore the precious treasures of the Galapagos Islands in different ways. It is also one of the first hotels on the Galapagos Islands with its own diving centre in cooperation with the well-known diving agency Extra Divers. The hotel staff will show you a wonderful underwater world that you won't find anywhere else in the world.
This place is home to twenty-two immaculate rooms, all located around a tranquil tropical garden with a swimming pool and complete bar service. A wooden bridge spans the pool and flowered ivy climbs up arching white walls, whilst coconut trees sway in the breeze above. A separate shaded area offers a resting retreat from the sun under canvas umbrellas so you can sit and enjoy the day without the heat. The rooms have a simple décor of white and blue with a hint of pink, giving them a nice fresh feel and furnishings are modern and minimal. Each has both a fan and air-conditioning aimed at meeting your comfort needs. The bathrooms are extremely clean and have baskets filled with face-cloths, shampoo and soap. Towels are provided and showers are hot. Good sized wardrobes offer a decent amount of storage space.
The restaurant, “El Pelicano”, has a sixty person capacity and looks out onto the tropical garden. Tables are covered in starched white linen and cutlery and crockery shines immaculately. The well presented staff are friendly and welcoming and it’s nice to eat in these classy surroundings.
Out front is a ‘summerhouse’ style bar-cafeteria with a very different atmosphere from the restaurant. With an opaque roof from which protrude leafy green trees, this area is in the daytime is filled with natural light, giving it a real earthy feel. Tables are covered in lime green cloths and pink canvas chairs sit on a white gravel floor. Ceramic lamps hang on chains from the roof and are colourfully painted with Galapagos wildlife. A well stocked bar offers a large selection of bottled wines and also champagne. Menus are written in English, Spanish and German and offer soups, steaks ($4.20 - $9.60), fish, cerviches, spaghettis ($4.20 - $9.95) and sandwiches.
The hotel organizes a myriad of trips and tours around the island, including kayaking, diving, biking and walking. There are staff who can speak Spanish, English and German and can offer you a wealth of information of what to do in Santa Cruz.
