The largest waterfall in the world is in Venezuela's Guayana highlands, and with tons of water cascading down for more than 3,200 feet, Angel Falls is beyond spectacular - it's practically heavenly. For a bit of comparison, try to imagine Niagara Falls stacked on top of itself 15 times - that's how tall Angel Falls is. During Venezuela tours, a visit to this geographic wonder is an absolute must.
Some background
The falls were named after Jimmy Angel, who was born in the state of Missouri and lusted after adventure for his entire life. In 1933, Angel and his partner witnessed the falls for the first time and returned four years later only to have an emergency landing at the top of the cliff. Angel, his partner and wife were forced to hike in the jungle for 11 days until they finally reached the closest village. Interestingly enough, the plane remained at the top of the falls for 33 years.
The cliffs where Angel Falls is located is known as the Auyantepuy, which translates to the Mountain of the God of Evil, which is a strange paradox to what it's known as today.
Getting there
To witness one of Mother Nature's finest achievements, you'll either have to hike for a few days or book a Venezuela tour and take a helicopter over the massive falls. Whether you see it from the ground or the skies, the view is mesmerizing and will leave you speechless. If you've ever seen the animated Disney film "UP," which was inspired by the illustrious Angel Falls, you may find yourself just as taken aback as the charming characters were.
