Adelaide, city of parks
In Adelaide, travelers on Australia tours can ramble through some of the country's best urban parks, bask in the sun on beautiful beaches, take in a variety of cultural attractions and enjoy first-class dining.
Almost half the city is taken up by its 29 parks, giving Adelaide a sense of spaciousness and tranquillity rare for a major city. Among the parks, visitor favorites include Adelaide-Himjei Japanese Gardens, the rose gardens of Rymill Park and the bicycle-friendly Botanic Park. Botanic's bike trails will take cyclists from the city's hilly interior to the ocean, where they can lay out on dazzling beaches or jump on a jet ski to whizz along the coast.
Among the cultural riches of Adelaide, the South Australia Museum and the Art Gallery of South Australia are standouts. The South Australia Museum's Aboriginal Cultures Gallery is renowned, and visitors who are fascinated by that exhibit should also head for Tandanya, the National Aboriginal Cultural Institute.
Given the various activities around Adelaide, visitors are sure to work up an appetite. Luckily, the city is a famous food capital of Australia, featuring "Eat Streets" lined with outstanding dining options. The East End is known for upscale restaurants and wine bars, Rundle Street hosts outdoor cafes, the foodhalls of Chinatown are the place to go for ethnic cuisine and Adelaide Central Markets abounds with fresh, local produce.
