Visit Kakadu National Park, an Australian national treasure
Travelers on Australia tours who are interested in the country's diverse wildlife will have a chance at seeing a good deal of it by taking a trip to Kakadu National Park. It is the largest national park in the country, covering hundreds of square kilometers in area. Many will need several days - three or more - to fully enjoy the park.
Kakadu is home to a number of animals and plants that are completely unique to this area and can be found nowhere else in the entire world.The park's geographical features are equally breathtaking. Some of the rocks are thousands or millions of years old.
As is the case with a number of Australia's government-sanctioned national parks, Kakadu is managed through a joint effort by government officials and representatives of two Australian aboriginal nations. The Bininj supervise the south and the Mungguy lay claim to the north, leasing the land to the government. These societies have lived in the Kakadu area for over 50,000 years.
Kakadu National Park is one of Australia's four UNESCO World Heritage sites, as confirmed by Australia's Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.
