Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, sometimes referred to simply as Puerto Viejo, is one of the major vacation destinations for those on Costa Rica tours. It is well-known for its popularity among surfers, and the colorful hustle and bustle of its boisterous cultural life.
The destination is quite popular among tourists, which may turn off certain travelers hoping to experience a quieter, less "tourist-y" area on their leisure time. Others, who want to have a considerably active vacation, might not mind the fast-paced atmosphere of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca.
Surfers will likely be more than thrilled by this location, as it is widely renowned for its excellent waves. Numerous restaurants featuring both local and international cuisine can be found, and on many nights live musicians will perform reggae music and various other local sounds as well as international rhythms of salsa, rock 'n roll and more.
The many beaches in the town include Playa Negra, Playa Cocles, Punta Uvita and Salsa Brava, forming a coastline that stretches for miles.
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca belongs to the Limon Province. The average high temperature through the year is approximately 82 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Weather Underground.
