Enjoy the La Paz Waterfall Gardens in San Jose
Travelers who are taking a tour of Costa Rica for their vacation and staying in San Jose can see one of the city's most intriguing natural attractions by visiting the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. This protected sanctuary will offer its visitors views of spectacular waterfalls and a wide variety of flora and fauna.
The Waterfall Gardens can be explored by walking on trails that take travelers through thick forests alongside the La Paz River and several impressive waterfalls, including La Paz Fall, which gave the sanctuary its name.
Primary animal attractions that are accessible while visiting the Gardens include one of the largest butterfly gardens in all of Costa Rica, as well as special orchid and hummingbird gardens. Several terrariums containing lizards and frogs, and a serpentarium featuring a number of native snakes, some of whom are extremely venomous, can also be seen.
Other amenities include a trout pound where fishing is permitted, a restaurant offering buffet-style dining and the nearby Peace Lodge hotel.
The La Paz Waterfall Gardens are privately owned and operated, and were first opened to the public in 2000. The park encompasses 70 acres of land, including 40 acres of cloud and rainforest.
