Turin is the capital of the Piedmont region of Northern Italy, noted for its beautiful architecture and historic port. Renaissance and baroque buildings line the numerous piazzas, which seem to spring into sight around almost every corner. The countryside around Turin is spectacularly scenic. This region profited from being surrounded by the French and Swiss Alps which resulted in local traditions being preserved. The vineyards of the infamous Barolo and Barberesco as well as less well known varietals are all nearby. Driving through the countryside, whilst stopping off to sample the delicious local dishes and wines is a real treat.
