On the slopes of the Chyulu Hills National Park, with sweeping views of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, Ol Donyo Lodge is located in one of the most spectacular and scenic locations in all of East Africa. Situated between Amboseli and Tsavo West in Southeast Kenya, the 275 000 acre Mbirikani Group Ranch offers the Amboseli National Park experience – minus the crowds - in utter privacy. In the path of traditional wildlife migration routes, it is a lodge rich in history, passion and conservation. Every view looks out across the vast savannah and onward to Mount. Kilimanjaro. No two suites or villas are the same, but what is consistent is the attention to detail, the comfortable yet utterly luxurious décor, and the tradition of greatness. Regarded as one of the most attractive lodges in East Africa, Ol Donyo Wuas is a place to call home for as long as possible.
Designed to merge your outdoor and indoor living, a series of unique suites (no two are the same) appears to emerge from the arid landscape on either side of a palatial lounge and dining area. The private cottage pool suites have their own swimming pool whilst all enjoy roof terraces where intimate “star beds” can be set up, allowing guests the thrill of sleeping in style under a canopy of endless stars while connecting with their sense of place and self. Each pool suite features a private pool, en suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor shower, and a “star-bed”/sundowner viewing deck.
Standard suites each have one large bedroom with a private en suite bathroom, a private pool, an indoor and outdoor shower and private "star-bed"/sundowner viewing deck. The decor is luxurious and opulent, while still retaining the atmosphere and sense of place that is an essential ingredient of an outstanding bush lodge.
One of the villas, Sambu, functions more as a bush home intended for families or groups of friends. This villa is purpose built and designed for a couple who want space and seclusion or for parents who require their children under the same roof, but with adequate space and privacy. It has two bedrooms under one roof and one swimming pool. Each bedroom has its own spacious en-suite bathroom, complete with an indoor and outdoor shower, "star bed" and sundowner viewing deck.
There is no doubt that al fresco lunches on the veranda and candlelit dinners in the dining room are wonderful, but here you can also enjoy breakfasts and dinners under the African sky, or surprise sundowners and classic English tea in the romantic setting of the bush.
Activities include 4x4 game drives, night drives, walks with armed guides, half and full-day horseback safaris (with a choice of over 20 quality horses that suit both advanced and novice riders), and mountain biking on the open plains. There are also close-up elephant experiences in the lodges open-air “log-jam” hide, romantic roof top “star-beds”, bush breakfasts, dinner under the stars, and authentic Maasai cultural visits. All-inclusive rate includes activities, all meals, all local drinks, house wines, and laundry.
