Traveling brings out the best in you, so why not put your best to good use? Come along with ME to WE and Kensington Tours in search of Africa’s legendary Big Five and discover how the Maasai people thrive in one of the world’s most demanding environments. Encounter chimpanzees at a rehabilitation center, head out into the Great Rift Valley on game drives, learn the ways of Maasai warriors and help support communities through hands-on participation in local development projects.

After arriving in Kenya, your first stop is the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, where sick and injured chimps are nursed back to health and integrated into families. Your first chance to see the Big Five — lion, elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros — occurs on a game drive at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, one of Kenya’s most renowned nature reserves. Later, visit the Lake Naivasha region for a boat tour and the chance to spot a wide array of animals, including zebras, giraffes, hippos, and dozens of bird species. Next stop: ME to WE’s Bogani Cottages and Tented Camp to get settled before a visit to a nearby primary school and health clinic. At Bogani and the surrounding area, you’ll have all sorts of chances to learn about life among the Maasai, including beading with local women and a lesson in how Maasai warriors are trained, as well as the opportunity to volunteer and meet with the students of the Kisaruni all-girls secondary school. Next, get to know the incredible wildlife and birds that inhabit the plains and watering holes of the Masai Mara National Reserve on a series of privately guided game drives, including one dedicated exclusively to tracking the critically endangered black rhinoceros. Each game drive is accompanied by experienced guides with intimate knowledge of the animals’ habits, including those that are often difficult to spot. Giving back makes a good trip great. Day 1: Nairobi

While you are in our care your safety and security are our number one priority. As such, in the unlikely event of serious illness or injury, all clients are covered by “Flying Doctors” Insurance policy. This emergency evacuation insurance covers the cost of the evacuation flight back to Nairobi for treatment.  This insurance policy however DOES NOT cover the cost of any medical treatment received. We highly recommend travel insurance for full coverage.

Enjoy a private airport transfer between the airport and your hotel.

Day 2: Nairobi - Ol Pejeta Conservancy - Laikipia

This morning you'll meet up with your guide and head off to Laikipia. The drive from the urban center of Nairobi, through the fertile highlands, the semi-arid frontier of Kenya is breath-taking and great way to see the countryside. The drive will be about 3 hours.

You will have the option of visiting the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary today. The sanctuary is the only place in Kenya where this highly endangered and remarkably intelligent species can be seen.

The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary opened in 1993 in a negotiated agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. Here the animals are carefully nursed back to health and integrated into families. The chimpanzees live in two large groups separated by the Ewaso Nyiro River. Watch them romp and play, visit the local shop, or even sponsor a chimp!

Visitors to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy have free access to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which is open daily from 9:00am to 10:30am and 3pm to 4:30pm.

Accommodation: Sweetwaters Serena

A sheltered oasis, clustered around a water hole and set in the pristine calm of the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp offers a charming blend of under-canvas ambiance and safari luxury. Located on the plains of Mount Kenya, the camp features luxury tents, each with their own private veranda overlooking the water hole. The central Rhino Restaurant is housed in the former manager's house of this once colonial farm, and offers both regional and international cuisine. Also within the house is the Kashoggi Bar and lounge, which centers on a blazing log fire. The Waterhole Bar, built in the style of a game-viewing hide, overlooks the waterhole and offers unrivalled wildlife viewing.

Day 3: Ol Pejeta Conservancy - Laikipia

Enjoy a great game drive in Ol Pejeta. The conservancy is host to all the members of the ‘Big Five' (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard). With a higher wildlife-to-area ratio than any Kenyan national park, it is one of only four private game conservancies to have been founded in Kenya. At the forefront of the Kenyan conservancy programme, the conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, hosts the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya, and shelters large numbers of rare and endangered species.

Enjoy afternoon game viewing in and around the Laikipia region. You can stop for a visit at the chimp sanctuary as well. This region has more endangered mammals within its borders than any other area in East Africa. Half of Kenya's black rhino resides here, along with other endagered and northern species: Grevy's Zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe... Just imagine what you'll see!

Day 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy - Naivasha

Your guide will drive you from Laikipia to Lake Naivasha, through the rift valley. This drive will take about 5 hours.

Prepare for an excitingly unique excursion to the Crescent Island Wildlife Sanctuary whilst in the Lake Naivasha area today. Admire the scenery as you take a short boat trip from the mainland to this dynamic location where you’ll have the opportunity to get in some wildlife viewing at a very relaxed pace. As there is little to no threat from some of the “Big 5” predators, the various species of wildlife, birdlife and flora live quite freely here, providing visitors with some great photo opportunities. Some of the many mammals that can be seen here include zebras, impalas, buffaloes, giraffes, and hippos. Resident bird species include herons, black cranes, lily trotters, ospreys and fish eagles.

Accommodation: Naivasha Simba

The Simba Lodge, situated 90 minutes from Nairobi, is surrounded by gardens on the serene Lake Naivasha. You will feel your nerves quiet down as soon as you set your eyes on the lodge’s rich, manicured grounds. Its 70 rooms are spacious and pleasantly decorated to fit in with the light, earthy, and calm surroundings. Dining is an all-around pleasant experience, where one may choose their favorites and make new discoveries at the wide buffet. Traditional and international cuisine is offered, as well as curries, which are popular with the locals. Hell’s Gate National Park is close by and there are plenty of activities, such as cycling and rock climbing, to be enjoyed there. Otherwise, take a boat ride or nature walk during your free time.

Day 5: Naivasha - Masai Mara

Your guide will drive you from Naivasha to Masai Mara. This drive will take about 5 to 6 hours. Drive times may be longer in the rainy season (April to early May and November). Stop for refreshments and souvenir shopping at roadside stands along the way or head straight to the park. Enjoy game viewing as you enter Masai Mara and drive to your camp.

Transfer to the Bogani Cottages & Tented Camp, only a 2-hour drive north of the Masai Mara gate. Upon arrival, settle into your new lodgings.

After a quick lodge orientation, walk Bogani’s winding paths under yellow acacia groves, and get acquainted with the camp, learning some Swahili along the way. Learn about the partner charity's sustainable development model, Free The Children’s WE Villages and how it works with rural communities to break the cycle of poverty and achieve long-term community development goals.

Enjoy lunch on the veranda overlooking the savannah.

In the afternoon, experience a guided walking tour of a local primary school in the Enelerai community, and see the difference between an old school structure, and a new working school built by WE Villages. Then, stop by one of WE Village’s newest projects, Baraka Hospital. Baraka serves over 30,000 community members, promoting healthy living and providing preventative, curative and rehabilitative services to the most vulnerable segments of the Kenyan population. These services enable individuals and communities to enhance their health.

Learn more about how the Kipsigis organize their homes and lives. Fetch water with the mamas, a task the women perform daily.

Roll up your sleeves and work alongside Maasai and Kipsigi community members as you help on a community project. Go on a guided tour of a WE Villages secondary school and meet girls who are completing their high school education. Kisaruni focuses on community, building cultural values, promoting leadership and diversity, and encouraging active learning.

After lunch, spend the afternoon beading with mamas in the community of Sikirar. Learn more about the artisans and how their work ties into the Opportunity Pillar of WE Villages. Enjoy a leisurely hike as you learn about medicinal herbs from a local Maasai Warrior. You will also have the chance to train in the art of Maasai weaponry as you enjoy a cup of chai or a glass of wine on the hillside.

Day 8: Masai Mara

Go for a sunrise hike and wish your new friends in the community farewell and debrief on your community experience with your facilitators.

Leaving the WE Villages behind, you'll carry forward the enriching experiences and stories of the people you have met.

You will have a private vehicle and guide accompany you throughout the day as you tour through Masai Mara.

Head out this afternoon, accompanied by an experienced tracker guide, on an exciting game viewing adventure.  Search some of the area’s wildlife hot-spots, determined by your guide, as have an understanding of the games daily routines through tracking.  Some wildlife, for instance the Leopard, is more difficult to spot than others. These spotted cats blend almost seamlessly into the tall grass and shrubbery, and are even more challenging to spot up in their favorite hangouts, the trees.  Your guide will take you to nearby watering holes, where on a hot day you’ll spot many bird and wildlife species, including the elusive Leopard.

Accommodation: Mara West

Nestled against a wooded thicket and surrounded by savannah, Mara West combines luxury accommodations with the breathtaking adventures of an unforgettable African safari. The rooms are perched in secluded spots on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, offering guests panoramic views of the Masai Mara Game Reserve below and a sense of exclusive privacy. The camp is home to resident herds of gazelles, impalas, and zebras, as well as an abundance of bird life, and is visited regularly by a variety of wildlife passing to and from the park. The stunning beauty of the Mara, the uninterrupted grazing of the antelope, the night calls of the bush babies, and the early morning chorus of songbirds, all combined with the comfortable and tasteful ambiance of the camp, is part of the Mara West experience and what makes it a unique paradise for nature lovers.

Day 9: Masai Mara

Just like the local wildlife, you’ll head out bright and early this morning, alongside an experienced tracker-guide for the day’s first game drive.  The eco-diversity and sheer size of the Masai Mara Game Reserve provides the necessary requirements to house a wide range of animal species.  The most recognized are known worldwide as the African Big 5, which includes the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Rhinoceros, Leopard, and the King of the beasts, the Lion.  The term Big 5 was coined by big-game hunters, as these species were the most difficult and dangerous to track and hunt.  Subsequently, the term was adopted by the tourism industry for marketing purposes, spinning a web of positivity opposed to the negative effect portrayed by the original terminology.  Numerous other species of bird and wildlife inhabit this dynamic location including Hyenas, Gazelles, Impalas, Giraffes, Zebras, Vultures, Cranes, Eagles, Falcons, and Ostriches.

On today’s afternoon game drive, the choice is up to you: search for the Big 5 or expand your horizons to discover something different. The Masai Mara not only has a rich mix of animals – it also has an incredible array of bird life that includes almost 450 different species.

Day 10: Masai Mara

The famed Masai Mara Game Reserve was named after the indigenous inhabitants of this land, the Maasai, and the provider of life to the area, the Mara River.  Game viewing is almost guaranteed at some point along the Mara River, and your experienced tracker-guide will know all the best spots to go to maximize this chance to see some of the many bird and wildlife species here.  Have your camera handy, as some amazing photo opportunities will present themselves from elephants on the riverbanks to hippos in shallow water.

Set out this afternoon with your tracker guide on another exciting game drive through the Masai Mara Game reserve.  The Mara area is one of the few places left in Africa where one can still spot Rhinos in the wild. It is estimated that there are only 4000 black rhinos left in Africa.  Your guide will take you to the locations where Rhino sightings have been recently reported to see if you can snap some photos of these elusive, lumbering giants.

  • Kathy C — October 12, 2017 — Africa

This was a perfect trip! Everything was just as planned. Drivers were always on time and locations were beyond compare.

  • Douglas V — October 12, 2017 — Africa

Our safari was fabulous. Our guides, Ken in Nairobi, Fidelius in Tanzania, and Ben in Kenya were outstanding. Service everywhere was impeccable. Dunia Camp in Asilia ran by women made me fall in love with the women. We are/were extremely pleased with our trip.

  • Mary B. — September 22, 2017 — Africa

Amazing trip! We saw more animals than we thought possible! The gorilla trek was amazing, and our guides Chris at Kichwas Tembo and Steven for the rest of the trip were very informative and accommodating. Loved the accommodations, especially Mountain Village Lodge, Kichwa Tembo, Kitela Lodge, and Tree Tops. Each was special in its own way. Thank you for helping us plan a trip of a lifetime!

  • Terrence D — September 08, 2017 — Africa

Trip was organized perfectly from start to finish. Lodges were all great, but each one kept getting better than the previous venue. The tented camps on the Serengeti and Masei Mara were exceptional. Service at the Acacia Farm Lodge was over the top. All were great!

  • Lori W — October 12, 2017 — Africa

If I could give a higher score than 10 on the accommodations, I would do so. The guides that we had, especially in Kenya (James) and Tanzania (Waziri) were fantastic and very knowledgeable about their areas. We learned a lot and had a great time doing so.

  • Matthew H — September 08, 2017 — Africa

All the hotels/camps in Botswana that Kensington organized for us were fantastic.

  • Roger C — September 08, 2017 — Africa

The safari was excellent. We had a wonderful ranger and tracker and saw the big five in addition to many other animals.

  • Joy L — September 08, 2017 — Africa

Loved Tanzania and the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar. Sam our safari guide was nice and helpful and Kevin our airport and city guide was fun to talk to and a great city guide. The hotels and food were amazing in Tanzania and Breezes Beach resort did an awesome job accommodating my daughter's vegan requests.

  • Mike Desmarais — July 20, 2017 — Africa

Went on a tour in Morocco with Kensington tours. We visited the cities of Casablanca, Tangier & Chefchaouen and had a wonderful time. Our guide (Mohammed Salmi) and driver (Eunice) were absolutely excellent and very professional. Mohammed was very knowledgeable regarding the cities and places we visited. Mohammed spoke very good English and was easy to talk with and a pleasure to be with for the 6 days we were in Morocco. We could not have asked for a better guide and/or driver during our time in Morocco. Our vehicle was a newer model Mercedes van that was very comfortable to be in for the long drives we had between cities, and our hotels were much better than expected.

  • Robert M — August 22, 2017 — Africa

It was simply an amazing trip! Our guide and driver were the best. Everything went smoothly and they made life very easy for us. I would not hesitate to recommend Kensington to anyone. Hotels were unique and exceeded expectations. Thank you for the significant room upgrade at the 4 Seasons on our last night. That was a huge surprise!
