When we think of Kenya, we typically think of endless grasslands, distant misty mountains, and herds of animals roaming free across the savanna. But there’s more to this land than that. Much more. Come with us on a unique adventure that explores Kenya’s famed wildlife reserves and introduce yourself to the unexpected wonder of its pristine Indian Ocean beaches on a trip that seamlessly blends the wild with the peaceful.

After arriving in Nairobi, the tour kicks off in the shadow of Mount Kenya at the celebrated Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to half of East Africa’s black rhino population and dozens of other endangered species. Meet them on a guided afternoon game drive and a visit to the 700-acre Endangered Species Boma, where you’ll encounter some of the world’s last remaining white rhinos. (You can also opt to visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary during your stay.) After a short flight, the scene shifts to Masai Mara. Here, you’ll follow roaming herds of elephants, spot lions, and track the Big Five on dedicated game drives, take guided walking safaris, and more while spending the night within the reserve. Last stop: the golden shores of Diani Beach. From a stylish oceanfront resort, you’ll have the option to go deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, or just unwind under the sun on one of the world’s most luxurious beaches. ... Show More »

Day 1: Nairobi

For your added comfort, an English speaking airport representative will meet you at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport arrivals hall. This representative will walk you through the welcome package documents, your itinerary and answer any questions you may have.

While in our care, your safety and security are our number one priority. As such, in the unlikely event of serious illness or injury, all guests are provided with a “Flying Doctors” insurance policy. This emergency evacuation insurance covers the cost of the evacuation flight back to Nairobi for treatment, however, does not cover the cost of any medical treatment received. We highly recommend travel insurance for full coverage.

Enjoy a private transfer between your hotel and the airport in Nairobi.

Day 2: Nairobi - Ol Pejeta Conservancy

This morning you'll meet up with your guide and head off to Laikipia. The drive from the urban center of Nairobi, through the fertile highlands, the semi-arid frontier of Kenya is breath-taking and great way to see the countryside. The drive will be about three hours.

Enjoy afternoon game viewing in and around the Laikipia region. The area has more endangered mammals within its borders than any other area in East Africa. Half of Kenya's black rhino resides here, along with other endangered and northern species: Northern white rhino, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe and silver backed jackal. Just imagine what you'll see!

A visit to the Endangered Species Boma on Ol Pejeta is not to be missed. In 2009, Ol Pejeta Conservancy welcomed four of the world’s last remaining seven northern white rhino from the Dvur Kralove Zoo in the Czech Republic. Guests have a once in a lifetime opportunity to come face to face with these four animals and to hear their amazing story. All proceeds from the endangered species enclosure are reinvested into the continuing efforts to pull the species back from the verge of extinction. The 700-acre endangered species enclosure also protects small but vital populations of Grevy’s zebra and the Jackson’s hartebeest. This tour is available twice daily from the Morani Information Centre at 08:30 and 16:00.

Accommodation: Sweetwaters Serena

A sheltered oasis, clustered around a water hole and set in the pristine calm of the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Sweetwaters Serena Tented Camp offers a charming blend of under-canvas ambiance and safari luxury. Located on the plains of Mount Kenya, the camp features luxury tents, each with their own private veranda overlooking the water hole. The central Rhino Restaurant is housed in the former manager's house of this once colonial farm, and offers both regional and international cuisine. Also within the house is the Kashoggi Bar and lounge, which centers on a blazing log fire. The Waterhole Bar, built in the style of a game-viewing hide, overlooks the waterhole and offers unrivaled wildlife viewing.

Day 3: Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Today you’ll enjoy game viewing in Laikipia private reserve with your skilled guide. You can stop for a visit at the chimp sanctuary. Drives are typically done in the morning at 6:30am for a few hours, and 3pm for a few hours, since the animals are most active at dawn and dusk.

Today you have the option of visiting the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary; the only place in Kenya where these highly endangered and remarkably intelligent primates can be seen. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary opened in 1993 in a negotiated agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. Here the animals are carefully nursed back to health and integrated into families. The chimpanzees live in two large groups separated by the Ewaso Nyiro River. Watch them romp and play, visit the local shop, or even sponsor a chimp! Please Note: Visitors to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy have free access to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which is open daily from 9:00am to 10:30am and 3pm to 4:30pm.

Day 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy - Nanyuki - Masai Mara

Your guide will drive you from Ol Pejeta Conservancy to Nanyuki today. This picturesque drive will take approximately one hour.

Please note, strict luggage restrictions apply to this flight: 1) Maximum weight allowance of 32 lbs (15 kg) is permitted per person. 2) Baggage must be soft-shelled. 3) Additional baggage allowance can be arranged at additional cost, please speak to your Destination Expert for more information.

This afternoon, head out on an exciting game drive with your guide and others from your lodge, keeping your eyes peeled for giraffes. Giraffes usually inhabit savannas, grasslands, and open woodlands. They prefer areas with plenty of acacia trees, an important food source, and can browse at heights that most other herbivores cannot reach. While adults are nearly invulnerable to predation, lions, leopards, spotted hyenas and wild dogs prey on baby calves. Giraffes commonly gather together to eat or socialize for a few hours and then roam off to graze separately. Males establish social hierarchies through "neckings," which are combat bouts where the neck is used as a weapon. Based on these displays, dominant males gain mating rights to females, who then bear the sole responsibility for raising their young.

Accommodation: Neptune Mara Rianta Luxury Camp

The Neptune Mara Rianta Luxury Camp is nestled in the heart of the North Conservation Masai Mara Reserve, immersed in the original bush among indigenous plants and trees. The luxurious tents are directly overlooking the Mara River, which winds itself around the camp with gently flowing waters surrounded with wild life and teeming with large groups of Hippos. The Neptune Mara Rianta Luxury Camp features the Acacia Dining Room where you can select from an abundance of fresh Kenyan produce to please the most discerning of palates. The camp also includes the Zebra Bar and Lounge where you will be able to relax and enjoy your favorite drink or cocktail. The Neptune Mara Rianta Luxury Camp also features the Mvua African Rain Spa, where you can finish off a day indulging yourself in a pampering session that will immediately relax and soothe your mind and body.

Day 5: Masai Mara

The greatest advantage to lodging on the Masai Mara Conservancy is the exclusivity and freedom it offers. Here you can explore the world famous Masai Mara eco-system on foot or by vehicle, both day and night. Within the conservancy, guides and guests have permission to explore without restriction: off-road driving is permitted to track down once-in-a-lifetime sightings, while bush picnics and sundowner drinks in obscure locations make for memorable moments in the heart of the East African bush. Local Masai guides, many of whom own the land that you are exploring, will be alongside you to interpret the bush throughout your stay. Set out on a walking safari and discover the “Small 5” that are so often missed from the comfort of a safari car, or head out on a night game drive in search of elusive nocturnal creatures. The variety of ways to experience and understand this natural habitat is what makes a safari in the Masai Mara Conservancy an experience beyond the ordinary.

Head out in the afternoon on a game drive with others guests of the lodge. As the sun descends and the plains begin to cool, wildlife emerges from the shelter of shade and becomes more active. See if you can spot a herd of elephants as they approach watering holes and rivers to cool down with a drink and mud bath. The largest living land animal on Earth, elephants live – on average – between 50 to 70 years. African elephants are the largest of their species, and with any luck, will be seen firsthand during your exploration of the Masai Mara.

Day 6: Masai Mara

Today you will set out on an early morning game drive with your expert guide and others from your lodge. The Masai Mara is home to a diverse range of animals. The park is home to the Big Five (Lion, Rhino, Elephant, Buffalo and Leopard) and numerous other species including Thomson's and Grant's Gazelles, Impalas, Topics, Hartebeest, Zebra and Masai Giraffe. It's also home to over 450 species of birdlife; among them are vultures, marabou storks, secretary birds, hornbills, crowned cranes, ostriches, long-crested eagles and African pygmy-falcons.

Early this morning you will meet up with others at the lodge and head out on a rewarding game drive. Today, see if you can spot the elusive leopard. The smallest of the four "big cats," the leopard was once found across eastern and southern Asia and Africa, from Siberia to South Africa, but its range has decreased radically because of hunting and loss of habitat. It is now chiefly found in sub-Saharan Africa. Compared to other members of the Felidae family, the leopard has relatively short legs and a long body with a large skull. It is similar in appearance to the jaguar, but is smaller and more slightly built. The species success in the wild is in part due to its opportunistic hunting behavior, its adaptability to various habitats, its ability to run at speeds approaching 36 miles per hour, its unequaled ability to climb trees even when carrying a heavy carcass, and its notorious ability for stealth. Ever elusive, these animals are one of the prized sightings within the Masai Mara.

  • Angelia M — June 22, 2019 — Africa

My Kenya trip was seriously the best trip of my life, and I absolutely loved every second of it! It was my dream vacation and the reality far exceeded the dream. Catherine, my trip consultant, answered all of my many questions and made sure everything went super smoothly. Daniel, my guide, was so fun, interesting, and informative. He went out of his way to make sure my trip was special. I really can't put into words how much I loved it other than I'm already thinking about another trip to Africa. I will definitely be using Kensington Tours again!

  • Chris S — May 17, 2019 — Africa

Our guide Elisha was absolutely incredible! He was friendly, helpful, funny, and remarkably knowledgeable about the area, the animals, and especially the birds! The accommodations were excellent and the staff at those places was wonderful. The Kubu Kubu tent camp in Serengeti was particularly special, and we felt truly appreciated and pampered by the staff. With their smiling help, we even learned some Swahili! Thank you for the trip of a lifetime.

  • Paul E — May 01, 2019 — Africa

We had no idea what to expect on this trip but exceeded even our wildest imagination. Daniel, with Kensington, laid out a wonderful plan. The upfront quality and detail on the proposal really sold us. The guides and local support crews on the trip, were on time, personable, and knowledgeable. Special shout out to Shamiel with Ilios Travel in Cape Town. He was joy and clearly loved sharing Cape Town with us.

  • Thomas S — June 14, 2019 — Africa

Karen Johnson was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and very friendly. Karen was readily available during the planning process and took the time to talk with and listen to us to find out about our wants and needs and ultimately designed our perfect vacation. We can not speak highly enough about her abilities.

  • Michael S — June 13, 2019 — Africa

The trip was the best thing we have ever done. The people we dealt with were professional and made sure every part of our trip was trouble free.

  • Raymond D — March 22, 2019 — Africa

The guides were friendly and very accommodating throughout my trip. One of the guides took me to the oldest tea house as a bonus on my tour. It was great being with the people and enjoying a cup of tea. My driver invited me to have Turkish coffee which was a very nice touch to my trip. The accommodations were phenomenal, being near the pyramids was outside of this world. The Kempinski Nile Hotel Garden City Cairo was a wonderful hotel as well. Gesa was great to work with! She was so nice and accommodating throughout the whole planning process. Especially during for the first part of my trip which had nothing to do with my tours with Kensington Tours. She planned everything out perfectly on my trip.

  • Donna M — June 02, 2019 — Africa

The Kensington Kenya and Tanzania African Safari itinerary and experience exceeded all expectations. From the moment we were met at the airport, we were completely cared for. Our Destination Expert, Erin Cotton, even checked in on us during the trip. Our guides were excellent; Albert and Steve were exceptionally knowledgeable, organized and considerate. The accommodations were all fantastic with friendly staff, comfortable rooms for the family, and great food. Although the balloon trip over the Mara River was a highlight, each game drive was a memorable adventure as or guides toured Amboseli, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and the Masai Mara. We got to spend some time in the local villages and dine with some of the other tourists in the middle of the bush and on a spectacular cliff overlooking the plains of Kenya and Tanzania. Most of all, every morning we looked forward to spending time with our guides searching for animals and learning more about the whole ecosystem.

  • Catherine L — May 05, 2019 — Africa

Everything was absolutely wonderful - from the planning to the execution. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Will definitely work with Kensington on my next trip! (I'm headed to Hong Kong this December and think I should probably do some exploring while I'm there!)

  • Jennifer W — December 04, 2018 — Africa

Our trip was amazing! The accommodations were lovely. Our safari guide made the experience memorable! Our only job was to relax and enjoy. The guide for our day in Sawato and to visit the Apartheid museum was extremely knowledgeable. This is our second trip with Kensington Tours. We will definitely use again.

  • Tanya R — February 20, 2019 — Africa

We left everything to our tour rep, Louise Baer. She did a fantastic job. We had no expectations at all but were absolutely overwhelmed with our accommodations. We were treated so well by everyone. It was an unbelievable trip of a lifetime. Our drivers were fantastic. I felt so safe. Brilliant holiday. Thank you, Kensington!
