Please note, strict luggage restrictions apply to this flight: 1) Maximum weight allowance of 32 lbs (15 kg) is permitted per person. 2) Baggage must be soft-shelled. 3) Additional baggage allowance can be arranged at additional cost, please speak to your Destination Expert for more information.

Visit local water-holes and shady tree patches where a variety of resident big cats, migratory herds and colorful birdlife frequent, taking photos to share with friends and family along the way.

Accommodation: Ruaha River Lodge Foxes

Ruaha River Lodge Foxes is a fabulous riverside lodge, at the heart of Tanzania's extraordinary Ruaha Park. The Lodge gets its name from the Fox family. They were pioneers in setting up safari camps within the pristine wilderness. The property includes twin camps (River and Hilltop, with 14 guest bandas apiece), one low open-sided thatched lodge, and the other wrapped organically around the top of a rocky kopje. The Foxes have spent years perfecting the standards of guiding, food and accommodation. The wild, remote, and unimaginably beauty of Ruaha National Park makes it one of East Africa's best kept secrets. There are few places in the world with such prolific wildlife. Cheetahs, leopards, and lions, elephants, buffalos, and hippos, wild dog, roan antelope, you name it, there's a chance you'll see it at close quarters.

Day 3: Ruaha

The activity options available at Jongomero are as diverse as the park itself. Aside from the normal game drives available in all parks, there are plenty of other exiting things to do. The normal game drives go out twice per day, in the morning and afternoon. All game drives are driven by qualified guides in an open 4X4 landrover with a canopy for shade and no more than six guests per vehicle.  A game walk through this magnificent park is a must if you want to get as close to nature as possible. There are daily bush walks through this great wilderness accompanied by an armed guide and a park ranger. Tread in the footsteps of those early explorers as you carefully work your way through Africas wildest area and get a glimpse of animals as they go about their daily routine from ground level, without the luxury of a vehicle. Immerse yourself in nature and learn about the skill of tracking, survival, dung identification and the various mammals, insects and plants very often neglected from vehicles.  For those with a truly wild heart, perhaps have a go at walking safari; a one or two day expedition on foot through the reserve sleeping in a small fly-camp or satellite camp.  If a break from a hectic schedule is called for then relax and take advantage of the amenities within the camp itself. Very often a large variety of life can be seen without leaving your tent. Birds constantly flutter through the camps trees and the early morning chorus is an auditory overload as the birds wake and get ready to go about their day. Elephant frequently enter the camp and can be viewed without even getting out of the swimming pool. Elephant shrews make thier home throughout the camp and dik-diks, jackals, impala and mongoose can often be seen scuttling about in the daytime. For those interested in the stars, the camp has its own high powered telescope to view planets, nebulae, stars and other heavenly delights. With over 530 species of bird, a huge population of buffalo, elephant and lion, plus a unique combination of both lesser and greater kudu, roan antelope and African wild dog, Ruaha offers as definitive a cross-section of wildlife as any park on the continent.

This afternoon you'll head out on a game drive alongside a local expert guide, exploring Ruaha in a 4x4 safari game vehicle. Your guide will take you to several wildlife hotspots, keeping in mind that many animals may be trying to avoid the scorching hot midday African sun. With a range of habitats including acacia savannah, wetlands and Miombo woodlands, the area attracts a wide array of wildlife that is sure to dazzle throughout your time in Selous.

Ask your lodge about going out on boat safari. Selous is renowned for its lakes and rivers; giant water courses which offer marvelous opportunities to explore the heart of the reserve. These boat trips allow you to see hippos, crocodiles, birdlife, and other game. Watch in fascination as hunter seeks prey by the water's edge.
