Southeast Asia is a land of contrasts: bustling modern mega-cities give way to carefully-stewarded holy sites, small roads cut through wild jungles to reach luxurious resorts that are typically the stuff of imagination, and the incredible diversity of cultures, cuisine and wildlife ensures that each trip is ripe with opportunities for personal discovery. On this tailored private adventure, you’re invited to discover the very best of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Singapore.

It all begins in dynamic Bangkok, a city that has masterfully merged old and new. With your private guide in tow, you’ll set out to experience the many sides of Bangkok, visiting aged temples, cruising the Chao River on a long-tail boat, and participating in an excellent Thai-cuisine cooking lesson.

The scene soon shifts north to the bamboo jungles of Chiang Saen. Here you’ll find an incredible tented camp with all the amenities needed to ensure a memorable stay. Cruise along the Mekong River, visiting the Golden Triangle region where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet, and enjoying a pampering spa experience during your day at leisure.

Next stop: Luang Prabang. The ancient capital of Laos, you’ll escape to the countryside in the early morning to witness an authentic morning alms ceremony led by local monks who have faithfully continued this tradition just as in centuries past. After reaching Siem Reap, set out to explore the one and only Angkor Wat; perhaps the most spectacular temple complex in the world. Capping off the Angkor experience, you’ll be invited to join a resident archaeologist to tour through the Angkor Conservation Center, typically closed to the public.

After traveling to the shores of Sihanoukville, Cambodia, you’ll be whisked away to an incredible private island to soak up the sun along white-sand beaches that are bound to dazzle. Relax in luxuriant leisure for a couple of nights before carrying on to your final destination: mesmerizing Singapore. ... Show More »

The perfect place to end your adventure, you’ll set out on culinary tour designed to capture the many unique flavors of the city, highlighted by a visit to a popular Hawker Center – an open-air food court – that is host to the world’s first Michelin-star rated street food vendor. Discover the vibrancy of Singapore’s historic Chinatown – which stands out in the city skyline due to the absence of high-rise buildings – and end your trip with a sensational dining experience, enjoying a lovely meal at Gardens by the Bay, high in an iconic Supertree.

Day 2: Bangkok

Bangkok is a city of contrasts - Buddhist temples, golden topped palaces, trendy sky bars, and traditional Thai living along the waterways - called khlongs - offering marvelous photo opportunities. This morning, head with your private guide to the historic center of Bangkok and start your day at Wat Suthat. Few visitors come to this temple early, so much the better to enjoy the monks melodic chanting ritual. It’s an incredible sensory experience. Then, a walk to Wat Pho (famous for its 141-foot-long reclining Buddha) takes you through small alleys with wooden houses, guardian spirit signs and lively fruit and flower markets. Pause at Lak Muang, Bangkok’s city pillar, well worth a five-minute detour before heading to the iconic Grand Palace and the adjacent Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. By now it’s time to enjoy a leisurely lunch and take in the awe-inspiring views at the riverside Sala Rattanakosin restaurant and experience the mid-day bustling atmosphere of the lively Chao River. But you haven’t really arrived in Bangkok until you get out onto the river itself on a Long Tail Boat ride. So, after lunch, come and explore the khlongs and be amazed by the constantly changing sights, from Thai wooden houses on stilts to the many boats with sellers offering everything from fruit to souvenirs. Your day ends with a visit to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn. Unique from the rest of Bangkok’s temples, its stunning design is made up of colorfully decorated spires and looks to stand guard over the river. Your guide can take you back to your hotel, or you might decide to stay and watch the sunset over Wat Arun from one of the rooftop bars across the river.

Day 3: Bangkok

Thailand is world-renowned for its fiery, delicious cuisine, and a private cooking lesson is the best souvenir for Thai food aficionados. This morning your private guide will accompany you to the world-famous Blue Elephant Restaurant and Cooking School for your one-on-one morning Thai cooking class with one of the chefs. Located in the heart of Bangkok opposite the Surasak Sky train station, the Blue Elephant Cooking School welcomes you to a dazzling, century-old mansion where you will discover and experience the culinary wonders of Royal Thai Cuisine. The school has fully equipped facilities, which offer you the chance to put your hands to work making Thai cuisine. Begin with an optional visit to the Bang Rak morning market, located one stop away by Sky Train. Accompanied by your instructor, learn to select and buy Thai ingredients for your personal cooking lesson. The lesson will be followed by a meal in the delightful restaurant, sampling your own cooking as well as additional Thai dishes. After lunch, you'll be transferred back to your hotel with the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 7: Luang Prabang

The bells of the town’s monasteries toll at dawn when lines of monks emerge to receive their morning rice from the townspeople. Wake up early this morning and enjoy some hot tea and cookies. Shortly after, set out to respectfully witness this sacred ritual typical of old Laos: long lines of barefoot monks weaving through the streets on their alms rounds. This will be in a village out of town where rarely any tourists are seen. Here you will have the opportunity to witness an authentic almsgiving ceremony. You will be supplied with alms you can offer to the monks. Afterwards, visit the Morning Market and see an array of meats, vegetables and spices the locals use in their cooking, then return to your hotel for a well-earned breakfast. Please note: If you wish to take photographs, please ensure they does not interfere with this highly revered ritual. It is recommended, out of respect, to appreciate the experience without taking photographs.

Explore the historic and charming heritage of Luang Prabang with your private guide leading the way. First you'll travel by car to begin your journey at the most popular of Lao temples – Wat Xieng Thong. This 500-year-old temple serves as the best example of the classic Luang Prabang style. Soon after you'll visit nearby Wat Mai and Wat Sene, affecting Buddhist temples. From there, travel through local and interesting side streets, passing along back alleys and temples in a city that seems to have been designed with slow travel in mind. This morning walk allows you to soak up the ambiance and appreciate the hidden charms of Luang Prabang while your guide chats with you and locals, asking and answering questions of interest as you wind through the town. Continue wandering the peninsula, stopping at temples and other sites as you wish. Be sure to visit the National Museum, the former Royal Palace. Relics from Laos’ royalist past remain here and should not be missed on your visit. Overlooking the palace is Phousi Mountai; it is said that those who do not climb the 328 steps up have not really made it to the city. If you are able and inclined, venture up the hill to be rewarded with remarkable views of the region.

During your time at leisure, take the time to soak up the property’s wonderful atmosphere, relaxing in luxury at Belmond La Residence Phou Vao. Take a dip in the resort’s infinity pool, explore the expansive tropical gardens, or settle in for a pampering, alfresco treatment at Mekong Spa. As the day transitions to night, find a table and enjoy classic European staples or traditional Lao cuisine while taking in the incredible views.

Enjoy a cup of coffee at a charming café on an unassuming side street, soaking up the ambiance and hidden grace of Luang Prabang. With your guide leading the way, continue onward through the peninsula, stopping at Wat Pakkhan which is situated on a bend surrounded by captivating rivers. Overlooking the confluence of the Nam Khan and Nam Kong rivers, take in the outstanding mountain scenery, and then relax as you are returned to your hotel.

Day 10: Siem Reap

Angkor Archeological Park is as visually breathtaking as it is revered for its religious and archaeological significance. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992, the complex was home to the largest pre-industrial city in the world. Stretching some 150 square miles, the park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire. You could spend weeks exploring the ruins, but today seize the opportunity to see the top highlights. With a local archaeologist and private English-speaking guide, visit the South Gate of Angkor Thom where you may take an optional walk along the wall to a hidden temple. Next visit the temples of Bayon, Baphoun and Terrace of Elephants, The Leper King and Preah Khan. Bayon is a favorite with photographers, with a multitude of smiling, serene faces carved out of the rock, each one unique. Centuries of Hindu and Buddhist influence have left their imprint on the temples of Baphoun, Terrace of Elephants and The Leper King, each with their own unique design and relief carvings depicting tales from both religions. Visit the famous jungle temple of Ta Phrom. The temple is slowly being reclaimed by the jungle, with strangler fig trees growing over the remains of the complex, giving Ta Phrom a surreal atmosphere. Next, explore Preah Khan. The temple has been left largely unrestored and untamed vegetation grows among the ruins. Adorned with garudas, an eagle-like divine being, the temple has significant Hindu and Buddhist religious symbols. Take a break for lunch at Malis restaurant and afterwards, visit the Angkor Conservation Center, constructed in 1920 to house original Khmer sculptures. The Ministry of Culture now runs the center and strictly controls access, which is not open to the public. This is a special access visit to a compound that houses more than 5,000 statues protected from wanton looting that has blighted hundreds of sites around Angkor. The finest are saved and hidden away inside Angkor Conservation’s warehouses, meticulously numbered and cataloged. End the day by visiting the ultimate Cambodian temple. Angkor Wat is one of mankind’s greatest achievements, and the intricate carvings at the temple of Angkor Wat demonstrate the skill of the Khmer builders. It was constructed in the early 12th century, then - two centuries later - was mysteriously abandoned by the Khmer civilization. Now Angkor Wat is the main reason tourists visit Cambodia. Finish the tour with an unforgettable sunset on the quiet east side of Angkor Wat or at Pre Rup Temple.

Singapore was once part of British Malaysia for many centuries. It was ruled by the Sultanate of Johor before the British came to the island and set up a port and colony in 1819. After World War II, Singapore became an independent nation and republic. Today Singapore has a diverse population of nearly 5 million people or more which is made up of Chinese, Malays, Indians, Caucasians, Eurasians, and Asians of different origins. Experience the various cultures come alive before your very eyes as you explore each ethnic heritage enclave by turns. At Kampong Glam, admire the quiet majesty of the Sultan’s Mosque with its unmistakable golden dome, explore colorful food eateries, and browse through old-fashioned shops selling batiks, carpets, rattan basket-ware, and exotic perfumes. Travel to the heart of Chinatown and experience the old and the new tradition and modernity in the rows of streets, and traditional shop houses lovingly restored into tempting eateries, teahouses and shops selling Oriental arts, crafts, and souvenirs as well as traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. Here you’ll break for lunch in a local restaurant, and afterwards, set off for Gardens by the Bay, an expansive park that is a highlight for any visitor to Singapore. Built at a cost of over one billion dollars, the gardens opened June 2012 and have already been billed as an unmissable attraction. The gardens house two conservatories, a Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, which are climate-controlled indoor glasshouses. The Flower Dome replicates the cool-dry climate of the Mediterranean and South Africa, while the Cloud Forest replicates a cool-moist climate found in Tropical Montane regions such as Mount Kinabalu in Sabah and high elevation areas in South America. Within the gardens, you'll find 18 impressive Supertrees (tree-like structures), which are vertical gardens up to 150-feet tall, each performing a multitude of functions. Along with providing a bird’s eye view of the entire gardens, they also collect rainwater, generate solar power and act as vending ducts for the park’s conservatory. After a day spent exploring these incredible monuments to botany, you will be returned to your hotel.

  • Tin T — June 22, 2019 — Asia

The trip was fantastic, well planned, great tour guys. That was a trip of a lifetime and Kensington Tours had done an exceptional well in organizing from the fly to Japan, Hong Kong, Bali & Singapore to the hotels, daily tours with the level of details and places we wouldn't have known where to go. Can't wait for Kensington Tours to organize our 3rd trip in the near future!

  • Ann M — June 20, 2019 — Asia

Asia Expert Yuki Ng did an amazing job of setting up our trip. She totally understood what we wanted to see and do. My husband, 17-year-old grandson and I spent a week in Seoul in June of 2019. Miriam, also known as CJ, our local guide in Seoul, was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. We totally enjoyed our time with her. We learned so much about the history and culture of Korea and with her expert guidance, we were introduced to many different and delicious Korean foods. Our lunches with her were memorable not only for the variety of restaurants and dishes that we sampled but also for the stimulating and pleasant conversations we shared while eating. She also made several suggestions for things to do in the evening that added to our enjoyment of the city. We were truly fortunate to have Miriam as our guide. Our driver Mr. Jo was also great. He calmly and expertly navigated the congested streets of Seoul and always greeted us with a smile and a pleasant ‘good morning.’ We had not been to Seoul before this trip. We found it to be vibrant, beautiful, and very clean. The people were friendly and helpful. Our accommodations were beyond what we expected. We had a wonderful time in Seoul. We could not have been more pleased.

My trip was a dream come true! From the time I landed in Beijing to the time I landed back to the US, everything was perfect. I traveled alone, but felt very safe and very well taken care of by the guides and drivers I had in the different cities and countries I visited. I learned so much about the culture and heritage of the Chinese, Tibetan and the Nepalese people. It was worth every penny I spend and much more!

  • Jackie M — March 30, 2019 — Asia

I loved it all. Thanks especially to our guide Abit, in Kathmandu, Norenda, in Pokhara, and Min, in the Annapurna region, for being fabulous people. Thanks again for also referring us to Bahari Lodge in Chitwan National park. By far, that was the best place I've ever stayed in all of my international travels: they always had a surprise in store for us, that was awesome. They let us spend as much time as we wanted with the elephants, no rush, and sent elephants to come and play with us when we merely mentioned that we loved them. A great thank you to our naturalis Krishna at Bahari Lodge in Chitwan. All fantastic people who were great with tourists like us. We also enjoyed Temple Tree Resort very much.

  • Reginald B — April 14, 2019 — Asia

This was a GREAT tour to Thailand! It exceeded my expectations in many ways (ie. itinerary, flexibility, and customer service). I would recommend this tour and Kensington Tours to family and friends. I will definitely use Kensington Tours for my future travel plans. My destination expert was Ms. Forkan. She expertly tailored my experience to my needs and wants. She filled in all the "unknowns" and ensured a safe, smooth trip/tour. Her professionalism and support was a 10/10. Thank you Ms. Forkan for designing this trip of a lifetime!

  • Ann L — June 05, 2019 — Asia

Our guides made our whole trip - we will remember them as much as China itself. Jerry immediately put us at ease and made us feel like his best friends - he was sincere and authentic and open. Katy (in Chengdu) had great energy and showed us how people really live. Even though she must see the pandas every other day of her life, she still seemed to genuinely LOVE seeing them. (And, later, when we discovered we'd left valuables in the safe at our hotel, she went WAY above and beyond to take care of things - even after we were already in Shanghai!). Nancy (in Shanghai) was amazing - we truly enjoyed our time with her and she took us to markets and encouraged us to take our time at the places that interested us most. When we'd seen enough temples, our guides communicated with each other to rearrange our tours in coming destinations. We felt like we were on the food tour of China - the meals were wonderful, and it was - really - TOO MUCH FOOD! No part of our day was wasted, but if we wanted to start later or call it a night sooner, plans were easily rearranged. We would absolutely go with Kensington again!

  • Sandra S — February 09, 2019 — Asia

We had a really interesting trip and your team made it all so easy. Our guides were not only informative, but they took very good care of us. They kept us on schedule with all the city transfers, made the Visa process so quick and introduced us to some of the things they loved about their cities as well as the scheduled sites. There were so many highlights on this trip, but I was especially wowed by the cruise on Ha Long Bay. Our guide in Hanoi went above and beyond on my birthday and arrived to pick us up with some beautiful orchids and a lovely gift. We were very happy with all our accommodations as well.

  • Daryl H. — January 26, 2019 — Asia

I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the superb attention to detail in fulfilling my requests and my dreams

  • Laura E. — January 08, 2019 — Asia

One of the benefits was that the guides were very flexible and suggested and accommodated changes to plans based on the weather and other circumstances. They all said they could do this when working with Kensington because Kensington supported it and empowered them with this flexibility. A big advantage in making the trip perfect!

  • Ajitkumar P. — January 04, 2019 — Asia

The whole trip was well organized and we have recommended using Kensington to our friends.
