But it is real – beautifully, bewilderingly, bedazzlingly so. Serene Singapore is a real-life Shangri-la; Tropical Thailand sparkles from the tips of its temple spires to the edges of its golden beaches; and Cambodia strikes a harmonic balance between ancient grandeur and modern style. It would be a shame to come all the way here and miss out on any one of these incredible places. Thankfully, you don’t have to.

Begin your adventure in Singapore, a modern metropolis with culture galore. Set out on a privately-guided experience to better understand the many ethnic groups that make Singapore one of the most diverse cities in the world, touring Chinatown and Little India, then head out on a nocturnal night safari at the nearby concept park, and wrap up your time in the city-state with an immersive tour showcasing how Singapore managed to transform from a sleepy fishing village to an economic hub of the world in just one generation.

Day 2: Singapore

Singapore was once part of British Malaysia for many centuries. It was ruled by the Sultanate of Johor before the British came to the island and set up a port and colony in 1819. After World War II, Singapore became an independent nation and republic. Today Singapore has a diverse population of nearly 5 million people or more which is made up of Chinese, Malays, Indians, Caucasians, Eurasians, and Asians of different origins. Experience the various cultures come alive before your very eyes as you explore each ethnic heritage enclave by turns. At Kampong Glam, admire the quiet majesty of the Sultan’s Mosque with its unmistakable golden dome, explore colorful food eateries, and browse through old-fashioned shops selling batiks, carpets, rattan basket-ware, and exotic perfumes. Travel to the heart of Chinatown and experience the old and the new tradition and modernity in the rows of streets, and traditional shop houses lovingly restored into tempting eateries, teahouses and shops selling Oriental arts, crafts, and souvenirs as well as traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. Little India completes the cultural kaleidoscope with its bustling streets showcasing aromatic and exotic spices, colorful flower-garland shops, vegetable vendors, and busy curry houses.

Be amazed with a birds-eye view of the city from the top of Marina Bay Sand’s Skypark, perched over 700 feet in the air with an observation deck in the clouds. After dinner, hop onto a bumboat at Clarke Quay for a cruise along the Singapore River to see Singapore lit up at night, showcasing beautifully restored shop houses, modern skyscrapers of the  financial district, colonial buildings and the iconic Merlion statue. Catch the Marina Bay Sands’ Spectra, a light and water show to end your evening. As the story unfolds before your eyes, you'll be immersed in a beautiful symphony of music, water and light that's powered by advanced lasers, fountain jets and visual projectors. Whether it's your first viewing or your hundredth, the 15-minute show will mesmerize you with its dancing water fountains, colorful visual arts, inspiring orchestral soundtrack and special lighting effects. Day 3: Singapore

Singapore was separated from the rest of Malaysia on August 9, 1965, and became a sovereign, democratic, and independent nation. Independent Singapore was admitted to the United Nations on September 21, 1965, and became a member of the Commonwealth of Nations on October 15, 1965. On December 22, 1965, it became a republic, with Yusof bin Ishak as the republic's first President. Thereafter commenced Singapore's struggle to survive and prosper on its own. It also had to create a sense of national identity and consciousness among a disparate population of immigrants. Singapore's strategy for survival and development was essentially to take advantage of its strategic location and the favorable world economy. At Singapore City Gallery, you will learn how Singapore overcame many challenges and transformed itself from a fishing port to a cosmopolitan city within a short period of time. Get an exclusive bird’s eye view of Singapore’s central area at one of the largest architectural models in the world. Enjoy a local coffee or tea with toasted bread before your next stop to have a glimpse of the local housing estate. End the tour with an MRT ride to the heart of Singapore, Orchard Road.

Day 5: Siem Reap

Today your private guide and driver, will show you a full day of historical adventures, as you're being whisked away to see the breathtaking architecture and natural setting of one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia. The different sites of Angkor cover around 250 square miles, including the forested areas. It features ruins dating back to a period between the 9th and 15th century, all sculpted in the distinctive Khmer style. As you approach the park, you will first see the South Gate of Angkor Thom. A walk along a half a mile trail past the walls that lead to a hidden temple is optional, but your guide will definitely ensure that you see the amazing temple areas of Bayon and Baphoun, as well as the Terrace of Elephants and Leper King. Take a break and have lunch inside the park before you head over to the grey-stoned jungle temple of Ta Phrom. Here you enter a mysterious world, as tree stumps seem to grow out of the temple and roots crawl up its walls. For many people this is the highlight of Angkor. The most famous part of the park is, of course, Angkor Wat, known to visitors around the world. Finish the tour with a peaceful sunset, as shades of violets, oranges, and pinks spread across the sky. This private tour includes transportation, an English-speaking guide, lunch, water, and towels.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up by your private guide and driver to visit the Roluos Group of temples, the remains of the first major capital of the Angkorian-era Empire. Included are Lolei, Preah Ko and Bakong. The sandstone carvings in the niches of the temples are as noteworthy as the Sanskrit inscriptions on the doorposts. The Bakong temple was built and dedicated to Shiva by Indravarman I. This is the largest and most interesting of the Roluos Group of temples and still has an active Buddhist monastery. After visiting the temples, you will receive a monks blessing for good luck and good health before returning back to Siem Reap.

Day 11: Chiang Mai

The fresh markets of Chiang Mai are at their liveliest just after dawn, as the city stirs to life and locals pop by food stalls for steaming bowls of noodles for breakfast before work. The city’s Buddhist traditional side is best witnessed early in the day, as monks in saffron-colored robes silently make their way through the sois, receiving alms for the day. Visit the Chiang Mai Gate Market early this morning with your private guide and sample some typical Thai snacks and breakfast foods. Remember, though, that you will adjourn to your hotel for a leisurely breakfast before you head back into the center of the city by songtaew as the riverfront Warorot Market stirs to life. By rickshaw, or “Samlor”, visit Thapae Gate, one of the four original city gates. Chat with an English-speaking monk at a nearby temple for an insight on monastic life – they are usually very excited to practice their English skills with visitors. Return to your hotel for an afternoon at leisure.

The largest city in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai was founded in 1296, and is found on the banks of the Ping River. While enjoying some free time in this ancient capital, consider immersing yourself in local culture with a visit to the Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Center, the Chiang Mai National Museum, or the fascinating Tribal Museum which provides insights into the culture of indigenous mountain communities. Known for excellent cuisine served on a traditional dish known as Khan tok, be sure to pop into a local diner for a tasty meal. The trip was fantastic, well planned, great tour guys. That was a trip of a lifetime and Kensington Tours had done an exceptional well in organizing from the fly to Japan, Hong Kong, Bali & Singapore to the hotels, daily tours with the level of details and places we wouldn't have known where to go. Can't wait for Kensington Tours to organize our 3rd trip in the near future!

Asia Expert Yuki Ng did an amazing job of setting up our trip. She totally understood what we wanted to see and do. My husband, 17-year-old grandson and I spent a week in Seoul in June of 2019. Miriam, also known as CJ, our local guide in Seoul, was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. We totally enjoyed our time with her. We learned so much about the history and culture of Korea and with her expert guidance, we were introduced to many different and delicious Korean foods. Our lunches with her were memorable not only for the variety of restaurants and dishes that we sampled but also for the stimulating and pleasant conversations we shared while eating. She also made several suggestions for things to do in the evening that added to our enjoyment of the city. We were truly fortunate to have Miriam as our guide. Our driver Mr. Jo was also great. He calmly and expertly navigated the congested streets of Seoul and always greeted us with a smile and a pleasant ‘good morning.’ We had not been to Seoul before this trip. We found it to be vibrant, beautiful, and very clean. The people were friendly and helpful. Our accommodations were beyond what we expected. We had a wonderful time in Seoul. We could not have been more pleased.

My trip was a dream come true! From the time I landed in Beijing to the time I landed back to the US, everything was perfect. I traveled alone, but felt very safe and very well taken care of by the guides and drivers I had in the different cities and countries I visited. I learned so much about the culture and heritage of the Chinese, Tibetan and the Nepalese people. It was worth every penny I spend and much more!

I loved it all. Thanks especially to our guide Abit, in Kathmandu, Norenda, in Pokhara, and Min, in the Annapurna region, for being fabulous people. Thanks again for also referring us to Bahari Lodge in Chitwan National park. By far, that was the best place I've ever stayed in all of my international travels: they always had a surprise in store for us, that was awesome. They let us spend as much time as we wanted with the elephants, no rush, and sent elephants to come and play with us when we merely mentioned that we loved them. A great thank you to our naturalis Krishna at Bahari Lodge in Chitwan. All fantastic people who were great with tourists like us. We also enjoyed Temple Tree Resort very much.

This was a GREAT tour to Thailand! It exceeded my expectations in many ways (ie. itinerary, flexibility, and customer service). I would recommend this tour and Kensington Tours to family and friends. I will definitely use Kensington Tours for my future travel plans. My destination expert was Ms. Forkan. She expertly tailored my experience to my needs and wants. She filled in all the "unknowns" and ensured a safe, smooth trip/tour. Her professionalism and support was a 10/10. Thank you Ms. Forkan for designing this trip of a lifetime!

Our guides made our whole trip - we will remember them as much as China itself. Jerry immediately put us at ease and made us feel like his best friends - he was sincere and authentic and open. Katy (in Chengdu) had great energy and showed us how people really live. Even though she must see the pandas every other day of her life, she still seemed to genuinely LOVE seeing them. (And, later, when we discovered we'd left valuables in the safe at our hotel, she went WAY above and beyond to take care of things - even after we were already in Shanghai!). Nancy (in Shanghai) was amazing - we truly enjoyed our time with her and she took us to markets and encouraged us to take our time at the places that interested us most. When we'd seen enough temples, our guides communicated with each other to rearrange our tours in coming destinations. We felt like we were on the food tour of China - the meals were wonderful, and it was - really - TOO MUCH FOOD! No part of our day was wasted, but if we wanted to start later or call it a night sooner, plans were easily rearranged. We would absolutely go with Kensington again!

We had a really interesting trip and your team made it all so easy. Our guides were not only informative, but they took very good care of us. They kept us on schedule with all the city transfers, made the Visa process so quick and introduced us to some of the things they loved about their cities as well as the scheduled sites. There were so many highlights on this trip, but I was especially wowed by the cruise on Ha Long Bay. Our guide in Hanoi went above and beyond on my birthday and arrived to pick us up with some beautiful orchids and a lovely gift. We were very happy with all our accommodations as well.

I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the superb attention to detail in fulfilling my requests and my dreams

  • Laura E. — January 08, 2019 — Asia

One of the benefits was that the guides were very flexible and suggested and accommodated changes to plans based on the weather and other circumstances. They all said they could do this when working with Kensington because Kensington supported it and empowered them with this flexibility. A big advantage in making the trip perfect!
