Day 2: Hong Kong

Hong Kong was once a simple fishing village. Today, it is one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities where East truly meets West. See all the highlights of Hong Kong Island on this orientation tour. It is a great way to get to know Hong Kong and its famous landmarks and history. Start the tour with a ride on the World's steepest funicular railway, the Peak Tram! Pulled by steel cables, the tram climbs about 1,200 feet and is so steep that the buildings you pass look like they're leaning. Looking down from The Peak, you'll be amazed by the spectacular view of the surrounding city skyline, the world-famous Victoria Harbor and Kowloon, towering skyscrapers and peaceful green hillsides. Returning down on the peak tram you will then transfer to Man Mo Temple, the oldest temple in the city and search for a bargain antique on Cat street. Next, a short walk through the Graham Street wet markets will give you a real insight into the way the local people shop for daily ingredients. You will then enjoy a ride on the iconic Star Ferry as you cross Victoria Harbor, one of Hong Kong’s greatest assets and a jewel that people marvel at no matter how many times they visit the city. Indulge in Hong Kong’s famous lunch - Dim Sum - at Serenade Restaurant. This afternoon you will explore the back streets of Kowloon. Next, you will walk through colorful streets and come across some of Hong Kong’s most lively markets, where you will feel first-hand the energy and soul of everyday Kowloon. You will first walk around the Jade Market, where around 400 stall holders sell accessories made from the revered green stone. Then, amid the burning incense coils, you will learn the history of the local Tin Hau Temple - Our Empress of Heaven - one of the most popular deities of South China and without question the clear favorite of the boat people. Continuing on to the Prince Edward area, you will visit the busy and colorful Flower Market, the center of Hong Kong's wholesale and retail flower business. Following this, you will walk along Yuen Po Street Bird Garden, a tranquil scene of men and their bird cages. You will finish the tour with a visit to the Goldfish street to see the brightly coloured tropical fish and a wide range of aquarium supplies on sale. Hong Kong people believe fish bring wealth, so the market is always packed and a fun place to visit.

Please note that with this tour you will have a private guide, but rather than traveling by private vehicle, you will make use of Hong Kong's efficient local transit system.

Day 3: Hong Kong

Cheung Chau Island has long been one of Hong Kong’s most popular island escapes. The tranquil island offers activities including water sports, bicycling and beach lounging, along with fresh seafood and local markets. The island is best known for the annual bun festival, held in May each year, in which competitors scamper up a tower of steamed buns collecting as many as possible. However for many Cheung Chau’s real attraction is its no nonsense, traditional village lifestyle. This is a world away from the suits and skyscrapers of the CBD and is a welcome contrast to most visitor’s expectations of Hong Kong. Fishing boats still ply the harbor and the waterfront promenade bustles with local specialties, seafood restaurants and family run grocery shops. You will be met at your hotel and make your way to Central before boarding a ferry to the Cheung Chau. There, the guide will explain the history of the island, visit the main sights and also have the chance to try a local snack or two. As there are no motorized vehicles on the island, adding to the laid back feel of the island, you will be able to choose the pace of their tour and can do as little or as much as you please!

Please note that with this tour you will have a private guide, but rather than traveling by private vehicle, you will make use of Hong Kong's efficient local transit system.

Preparations were excellent - we really appreciated the attention to detail. The VIP Visa handling in Vietnam & Cambodia was much appreciated also. Guides were outstanding - particularly Borin in Cambodia.

  • Charles M. — September 22, 2017 — Asia

We had a GREAT time on this tour with our granddaughter. All the tour guides were knowledgeable. Thanks for planning this great trip for us.

  • Levi P — August 22, 2017 — Asia

Used Kensington Tours to book my honeymoon in the foreign speaking country of Thailand. It was great to not have to worry about transportation or accommodation. Our itinerary was amazing but the best part was probably our English speaking guides. We had three separate guides and each of them became like close friend to us. The travel was long but I wouldn't trade our experience in Thailand for anything.

  • Karen K — August 22, 2017 — Asia

I went to private tour w Kensington to Japan for 3 weeks last month. It was incredible. My daughter was studying in Niigata so I wanted her to hook up with me periodically throughout my tour to see all the highlights of Japan. It worked out perfectly. I'd personally like to thank Adam Watkins who was incredible with detail, kindness and professionalism. The guide selection was a perfect fit. I cannot say enough about my and my daughter's experience with Kensington Tours. A trip of a lifetime.

  • Debra Y — August 22, 2017 — Asia

All the accommodations were great. The guides were very personable and knowledgeable. As a woman traveling alone, I never felt unsafe.
