In 1898, Rudyard Kipling famously wrote, "This is Burma and it is unlike any land you know about." Formerly known as Burma, Myanmar has emerged from isolation to become one of the world's most coveted travel destinations. Westerners are still a curiosity for many Myanmar locals, and on this trip you’ll cast your eyes on sights seen by few foreigners. Witness the echoes of colonialism in Yangon’s historic architecture, including the illuminated Shwedagon Pagoda at night. Witness the largest and densest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world in Bagan, and relax with a drink as you catch the sunset over this magical land. Cruise through lush floating gardens at Inle Lake, and hope to catch a glimpse of the traditional leg rowers on Inle. Journey to Mandalay, former royal capital, where you'll explore surrounding villages and experience an exotic evening out in the town. Your private guides and drivers will bridge communication gaps and help you experience the stories and talents of the local craftsmen, chefs and stallholders that have been isolated from the west for so long. Minnanthu is probably the most favorite temple area amongst frequent Bagan visitors and you know why? It’s quiet, it’s a beautiful area, and the temples here are often completely deserted. Your guide will bring you by car to this forgotten part of Bagan and will spread out a blanket and serve you a great picnic lunch in this historical setting before or after visiting 2 or 3 ancient temples ruins in this area.

A full day tour by car, with an experienced guide through Bagan will show you the best known temples of the area. We start the day climbing a pagoda to get a first impressive view over the whole area. From here the guide plans his way to some of the other amazing temples that have been here for hundreds of years. Places like the Ananda, Dhammayangyi, Sulamani, and Thatbyinnyu will certainly impress you. Lunch will be taken at a local restaurant and around 4:00 PM continue the tour by horse cart to Pyathagyi pagoda for sunset with some refreshing drinks served! Oh… we forgot to mention the best part of this tour; whenever you see a temple you like, just ask your guide to stop to have a look at it – simply pick your own favorite temple.
Stay at least 2 nights in Bagan, one to see the sun go down from the top of an ancient temple, the other one to take a boat ride on the mighty Irrawaddy River and have some sundowners on a sandbank in the middle of the river (if the river is not too high). A private boat tour on the river during sunset time will hopefully show you a spectacular sunset while your guide will be serving drinks and some snacks.

One of the benefits was that the guides were very flexible and suggested and accommodated changes to plans based on the weather and other circumstances. They all said they could do this when working with Kensington because Kensington supported it and empowered them with this flexibility. A big advantage in making the trip perfect!
The whole trip was well organized and we have recommended using Kensington to our friends.
Mark was able to put together the perfect tour! Our guide was very knowledge and we really appreciated her being so flexible with the holiday as we were there for Chinese New Year! She was able to take us to all the sights and part of the highlight was eating traditional Chinese food for New Year's.
This tour was so well organized - everything went off perfectly. As two women traveling together in a country where the language barrier was a challenge, it gave us great peace of mind to know that we would be escorted wherever needed. We appreciated not being part of a group - our private tour guides were delightful and the entire trip was very special for my daughter and me.
The trip was very enjoyable. We gained new insights into China and the Chinese people. I wish we could have stayed longer. There is so much to see. My favorite sites were the Great Wall, Terra Cotta Soldiers, White Jade Buddah and the Shanghai night skyline. Cindy was most helpful in planning our trip. She's truly an asset to your company. Kensington Tours met all of our vacation needs.
I usually don't write reviews but I have to tell you, this was the best vacation. Yuki, our Destination Expert, did an excellent job putting it all together and the guides were excellent. I will be using you guys for my next international vacation.
It was such a spectacular trip - one we will never forget.
Gayan, our guide in Sri Lanka, was BEYOND amazing. I literally cannot do justice to how fantastic he was for my wife and I on our honeymoon. An amazing guide, a great companion, and an extremely good person.
It was a stellar experience in every way, but mostly due to the caliber of our tour guide. Tomo was exceptional in all areas - intelligence, expertise, personality and commitment to our comfort and needs. She truly went above and beyond and was a delightful companion, as well. It was actually emotional saying goodbye to each other!
Our trip was perfectly planned. Our guides were friendly, knowledgeable and went out of their way to be helpful.
