A land of extreme landscapes and even more extreme sports, New Zealand’s wild side is well known. But its mild side – respected wineries, warm Maori welcomes, renowned restaurants, and relaxed fjord cruises – is world-class, too. On this luxurious trip, New Zealand’s natural wonders and creature comforts unfurl at a leisurely pace. And if slow is still too fast, don’t worry; a little beachside R&R in Fiji should take things down to the very last notch.

We begin on Waiheke, Auckland’s idyllic island paradise of vineyards and golden beaches where you’ll have the chance to sample award-winning reds on a private tour of a selection of local wineries. Later, head south to Rotorua – a (literal) hotbed of both geothermal activity and Maori culture – where you’ll watch apprentice artisans learn traditional carving and weaving techniques from masters at Te Puia before settling in for a delicious earth-cooked hangi feast and an evening walk through the spectacular Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley. Next stop: the South Island and Queenstown. Here, you’ll discover the more refined side of high-octane “Adventure Capital of the World” on a wine tour that visits five of the region’s top wineries en route to a delicious gourmet dinner at one of the city’s top restaurants. The perfect Kiwi farewell awaits on the edge of the Tasman Sea with a magical overnight cruise of the misty fjordlands of Milford Sound, but the adventure isn’t quite over yet. After bidding a fond ka kite to New Zealand, say bula vinaka to Fiji, where you’ll spend the next few nights in the supreme comfort of a paradisiacal resort in the Mamanuca Islands. Swim, snorkel, water-ski or laze about to your heart’s content; after all that relaxation and fine living, you’ve earned a rest, no? ... Show More »

Day 2: Waiheke Island

On Waiheke Island, which also known as New Zealand’s Island of Wine, discover an abundance of impressive vineyards. Wineries on your tour may include Obsidian, which is a boutique winery established in 1993 with the single objective of producing a great Bordeaux-style red. They now make ten varietal wines, including several award winners. Their flagship wine is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Another fantastic option is Kennedy Point, which produces Syrah, Merlot, Malbec, Chardonnay and Rosé wines. The winery’s Syrah recently won the International Syrah Trophy, the New Zealand Syrah Trophy, the New Zealand Red Wine Trophy and the Auckland Syrah Trophy at the International Wine Challenge. Day 5: Rotorua

Today, visit Hells Gate & Wai Ora Spa in Rotorua, New Zealand’s most unique geothermal health spa experience. Home to New Zealand’s most active geothermal field, this fascinating area showcases a large variety of volcanic features such as exploding geysers, steaming fumaroles, pools of boiling mud, as well as the only accessible mud volcano and the largest hot waterfall in the Southern Hemisphere. Set amid this active geothermal reserve is Wai Ora Spa and Wellness Center, and today you’ll experience the unique geothermal muds and sulphurous geothermal waters of the Hells Gate Mud Baths. Each mud bath contains an excess of 220 lbs. of the finest geothermal muds in both suspended and solid form, while each spa contains pure sulphurous water drawn directly from the geothermal valley. Unaltered, the water cleanses, tones and heals broken skin and has been used for centuries by local Maori people. Relax as you experience both the mud bath and sulphur spa over the course of approximately two and a half hours, then sit back as you’re returned to your hotel.

Enjoy a guided tour of the valley with one of Te Puia's world renowned guides. As part of the tour you will visit New Zealand's national carving and weaving schools and witness these disciplines in practice under the guidance of full-time master carvers and weavers. You will visit award winning interactive galleries, see a kiwi bird up close, and most importantly, hear stories told by descendants of the valley. To conclude the first half of the tour you will visit the geyser and mud pools and then be invited to have a short rest prior to the beginning of the evening experience. Traditionally, Te Po is an intimate time for sharing knowledge while enjoying food, culture and friendship. Taking place at Te-Heketanga-a-Rangi (The Heavenly Origins), which is an area comprising of twelve monumental carvings reaching skywards – each one representing a Maori deity – you’ll hear the stories of the past and see how these traditions live on today. Feeding guests is regarded by Maori as an honor and a sign of a tribe’s Mana (standing), and as a result, you can expect a lavish banquet meal during the evening. This meal combines contemporary cooking techniques with traditional Hangi (earth-cooked oven meal), where Kai (food) is steam-cooked by hot rocks in the earth, giving it a delicious smoky flavor. Following dessert, you will be transferred to the Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley to take in the spectacular lighting. Here, you can wander around the illuminated natural attractions, including Pohutu geyser. A shared outing, this tour can accommodate up to 160 guests.

Samantha created a great tour itinerary for us. It included all of the sights and activities that we truly wanted to see and do. We were impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of Samantha, our travel consultant. This was a trip of a lifetime and we want to thank Kensington Tours for making it happen!

This was an absolutely worry-free adventure! From start to finish, it was wonderful. The hotels were all charming and well-located, activities were small groups and all very welcoming, the transfers were perfectly smooth and we had a wonderful time. Thank you to Colin Rowe for tailoring our trip to include our requested activities - it was a very special travel experience!

  • Sheri S — March 31, 2018 — Australia & Pacific

The Kensington guides were the best guides with whom we have worked with. They were authentic and truly knowledgeable of every aspect of our trip. Renee, our destination expert, did an unparalleled job of bringing it all together, even with our last minute requests. Thank you for an unforgettable trip of a lifetime!

This is our 6th Tour with Kensington. Needless to say we love every tour that we took. Kerry Brown was a very wonderful agent who attended to every one of our requests with enthusiasm and dedication. We really "loved " her.

  • Caren M — October 23, 2017 — Australia & Pacific

Kensington Tours did a great job in setting up our itinerary for a trip to Australia. We were wowed by the Alamanda Resort hotel in Palm Cove, Queensland. We were also very impressed with all but one of the drivers who transported us. The company that led the trip out to the Great Barrier Reef was outstanding.

  • Mary S — October 23, 2017 — Australia & Pacific

Renee Need was very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable!

  • Leonard C — November 07, 2017 — Australia & Pacific

Can't think of a trip where everything went so well. Every transfer, every tour, both hotels, exceeded expectations. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable people from Renee through all we met on the ground in Cairns, Port Douglas and Mossman.

Colin Rowe was fabulous. He showed real concern for our comfort and was always there to answer our questions. He is very knowledgeable and a real asset to your organization. We would ask for him by name if we travel again. The meals were delightful, and the tour guides were not only well versed in the culture and surroundings, but offered delightful personal stories during the ride that enhanced our trip. Our accommodations were excellent - both the Four Points Sheraton in Perth and the Radisson Blu in Sydney were first class. Clean and very comfortable. Overall, a wonderful trip!
