Day 2: London - Exmoor

Depart London today with your private driver-guide, heading to Exmoor as you venture in to Cornwall. Along the way, you’ll stop in Wells for a tour of the Wells Cathedral and Vicars’ Close. The Wells Cathedral, in its 12th century Gothic style, is renowned as of the most beautiful cathedrals in England, and it contains one of the largest collections of historic stained glass in the country. Looking upon the cathedral is Vicars’ Close, the oldest intact residential street in all of Europe. Walk the 14th century street, featuring a collection of near-identical stone row houses, originally constructed to house choir singers of the cathedral in order to keep them near the church. Finish your day as you arrive to Exmoor for check-in.

Accommodation: The Old Rectory Hotel

Idyllically situated high up on the cliffs of Exmoor National Park on North Devon’s coast, The Old Rectory Hotel looks out over the moving National Trust Land; acres of immaculate gardens highlighted by a trout pond and Victorian maze. Each guestroom at the property has a distinct character of its own with an eclectic blend of contemporary amenities and antique furnishings. This stylish, 10-room boutique country house has been awarded Best Small and Intimate Property in the Conde Naste Johansens Awards for Excellence, as well as winning 8 awards over 4 categories in the Tripadvisor Traveller's Choice Awards. No crowds and no traffic are here to disturb the peace; just birdsong and jaw dropping scenery. A perfect place to relax, and enjoy Devon.

Day 3: Exmoor - Newquay

Meet your private driver-guide, and depart Exmoor for Newquay today. Along the way, you’ll get to visit the medieval fortification Tintagel Castle, a site which gained notoriety in the 12th century when it was revealed to be the place of conception of the legendary King Arthur. Continue with a drive to Port Isaac, and make your way through the picturesque fishing village, famously featured in the television series Doc Martin. Next you’ll make your way to Trerice, a romantic Elizabethan Manor House with stunning interiors and delightful gardens. The house belonged to the Arundell family for 500 years before eventually being sold to the National Trust.

Accommodation: The Headland Hotel & Spa

Day 4: Newquay - Falmouth

Meet your private driver-guide today and transfer to Falmouth, making stops to visit interesting and picturesque parts of Cornwall along the way. Your first stop will be in St Ives, a beautiful seaside town and historic fishing community, widely regarded as the jewel of Cornwall’s crown. Explore the winding cobbled streets, finding a wide range of small independent shops, galleries, restaurants, pubs and bars, and even spot fishing boats bobbing slowly around the harbor. Continue to Porthcurno where you’ll get to visit the Minack Theater, the most famous cliffside open-air theater in Britain, and possibly the world. From above, it looks as though some wandering Greeks had carved a theater into the granite cliffs of the town 2,000 years ago, despite actually being a product of the 20th century. Lastly, visit the stunning tidal island of St Michael’s Mount, connected to the mainland by a causeway which is only passable during low tide. Some buildings on the island’s summit date back as far as the 12th century. Continue to Falmouth to conclude your day.

Accommodation: The Royal Duchy Hotel

With its breathtaking seaside locale, the Royal Duchy Hotel offers an exquisite setting where you can’t help but feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle, while in reality you’re still only a short stroll to Falmouth town center and nearby golden beaches. Opening its doors for the first time over 100 years ago, the 45-room Royal Duchy Hotel has gained a reputation as one of the top hotels in Cornwall. All rooms are stylishly decorated and fitted with high-quality furnishings, with free wifi provided throughout. Wake up to the sun rising over the bay and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. Let the Royal Duchy work its magic on you.

Day 5: Falmouth

Today you will stay put and tour Falmouth. Visit Pendennis Castle which dominates a high rocky headland on the south side of the Fal estuary, overlooking the English Channel close to where it joins the Atlantic Ocean, historically a vital sea route. The castle defences are a rich amalgam from an artillery fortress operating throughout the period 1539–1956, concentrated both inside Elizabethan ramparts and on the top and slopes of the headland around it. The afternoon is free to spend as you wish, but your driver-guide is available to you all day. Includes entrance fees to Pendennis Castle.

Day 6: Falmouth - Fowey

Set out with your private driver-guide, leaving Falmouth today for Fowey, enjoying a day of touring en route. You’ll first visit the city of Truro, boasting beautiful Georgian architecture independent shops, bustling markets, fine places to eat, and a wonderful cathedral in Gothic-revival style. Continue to Heligan, seat of the Tremayne family for more than 400 years, and one of the most mysterious estates in England, where you’ll enjoy a tour of the Lost Gardens of Heligan, one of the United Kingdom’s most popular botanical gardens. Finally, included is a special visit to Tregothnan Estate, the historic seat of the Boscawen family, viscounts of Falmouth. Internationally recognized as the home of English tea, you will explore part of Cornwall’s largest private estate, as well as the tea plantation, accompanied by a member of the estate’s gardening team. Afterward, arrive to Fowey for check-in.

Accommodation: Fowey Hall Hotel

Day 7: Fowey - Exeter

Meet your private driver-guide this morning for a transfer to Exeter, with a day of touring through Cornwall along the way.  Your first stop – the Eden Project – is the largest indoor rainforest on Earth. Explore the biodomes featuring an assortment of exotic flora collected from across the world. After, stop for an included light lunch of Cornish pastries and salad at the Jamaica Inn. This pub/inn was made world-famous by Daphne du Maurier's 1930 novel ‘Jamaica Inn’, a tale of smugglers, rogues and pirates. The young author was inspired to write the novel after she became lost in thick fog whilst out horse riding on the moors, and sought refuge at the Inn. In the afternoon you will visit the Camel Valley Vineyard where they have been producing award-winning, world-class wines for thirty years. Their success is due to excellent grapes that perfectly suit the soil and climate, and a respect for traditional vineyard practices combined with a modern approach to wine making. Finish the day in Exeter.

Accommodation: Bovey Castle

Located in the heart of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, the Bovey Castle rests on 275 acres of beautiful countryside and rolling valleys. First opened as a hotel in 1930, this luxury castle boasts 60 individually-designed bedrooms, 22 self-catering country lodges, a pair of restaurants, a spa, and an award-winning 18-hole championship golf course. Delight in the quintessentially English treat of afternoon tea, served in the opulent Great Western Restaurant or, in fine weather, on the South Terrace with panoramic views of the entire estate. Bovey Castle is a place where you can live out your dreams, then put your feet up.

Day 8: Exeter - London

Depart Exeter for London today, with your private driver-guide. En route, you’ll visit one of the most mysterious sites on the planet; Stonehenge. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, and cultural icon of Britain, Stonehenge has dazzled historians, archaeologists and visitors alike, with its massive 25-ton standing stones which date back 5,000 years, arranged in a way that suggests early and advanced understanding of astronomy, with a particular focus on the solstice. Tour this bewildering monument, then continue onward to Salisbury Cathedral, a medieval church with a 404 foot spire, the tallest in the UK. The cathedral is a center of pilgrimage for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, and contains the most well-preserved version of the four original copies of the Magna Carta, dating back to 1215. Conclude your day as you arrive back to London.

Accommodation: Hilton London Heathrow Airport T4 (B) (Deluxe)

  • Mary W — May 05, 2019 — Europe

My Kensington Tours Destination Expert, Jessica Clements, was so helpful and patient as we planned our trip. She was so helpful in recommending things based on her experience and so patient as our dates changed, and we had more ideas about what we wanted to see. Once we got to Greece, our pickups and transfers were seamless. Our tour guides, drivers and destination greeters were all so warm and welcoming. The hotels were fantastic in terms of service and location. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I have already recommended Kensington to several friends.

  • Rita B — April 24, 2019 — Europe

Our entire visit to Poland was outstanding, first-class. Booking the tour with Karolina Stringer made it so easy. All I did was tell her the places we needed to visit and what was the feel we wanted for the visit. Not only did we want to see the landmarks of Poland, but we also wanted time to walk the squares, sit in the cafes, take public transportation. Everyone we encountered in Poland was top-notch. Our guide for Gdansk was Ewelina Danecka. This amazing woman enchanted us with her knowledge and her joy in sharing her country with us. On our first day, I requested we reverse the first two days of our plan and she was totally flexible. I gave her the name of a very obscure town and she and the driver found it! Ewelina acted as my interpreter with the parish priests of the two towns we specifically needed to visit for our family research. She and our driver stayed with us an extra two hours after they were scheduled to be done for the evening and because of their generosity we saw Wawel Castle, which wasn't on our schedule, we loved it! Our three days with Ewelina were so intense and emotional that we felt we were leaving family when we said goodbye to her. The Hanza Hotel was wonderful, overlooking the riverfront. Warsaw was waiting for us and so was Agnieszka Tomazuk. Agnieszka was wonderful. We were specifically interested to visit the Warsaw ghetto and the war monuments commemorating the valor of the Poles during the WW2. And we were very interested to know about the Polish life under communism. I specifically requested a "good" Chopin concert. We didn't get good, we got a brilliant concert given by Agnieszka Przemyk-Bryla, in the Szuster Palace, not some impersonal concert hall. Her passion for the music combined with her technical ability made that evening unforgettable. The Polonia Palace Hotel was very nice, though not quite within walking distance to the Warsaw town square. On the way to Krakow we stopped at Jasna Gora to see the Madonna. We were guided and educated by one of the nuns of the Monastery. Totally awesome. We could not have done Krakow without our guide, Marta Bochenek. She made sure we knew not just what we were getting into when we went into the Wieliczka Salt Mine, but how to get out and meet up with her, since there were not one, but two exits from the mine. And when we went to Auschwitz, Marta very wisely said that she would be waiting if we decided not to go to the Birkenau portion of the concentration camp visit. Respectfully and reverently done as it was, Auschwitz was so powerful, we decided not to go on to Birkenau. I'm so glad we did go to Auschwitz. The Sheraton Krakow was very fine. Our first cup of "real" coffee in Poland. Most of the hotels' coffee is made from Nescafe or some instant coffee. The coffee at the Sheraton Krakow was really whole roasted coffee. Kensington Tours is contracting with the first class tour agency in Poland. We could not be more satisfied with our entire experience. The mood of our tour exactly matched the attitude I relayed to Karolina at the very beginning of our planning. This trip felt like it was planned just for us. This is our second time using Kensington Tours. Like the first trip, this was OUR tour.

  • Marilyn R — April 22, 2019 — Europe

The absolute best trip to Europe we have ever taken. The entire process was flawless: best hotels, best guides, etc. This experience was new to us, but now it’s the only when I will travel! Kensington tours was the best. A truly 5-star experience from beginning to the end!

  • Sharayu T — May 13, 2019 — Europe

The Eastern Europe trip was fabulous. Everything went smoothly. The guides and drivers were excellent. We enjoyed the trip immensely. To begin with, our arrival at Budapest train station and meeting up with Mr. Sandor went flawlessly. We were a little anxious as the main train station was closed, but when we got down at Budapest Kelenfold, it was such a relief to see Mr. Sandor waiting for us. All our guides, Sandor, Bozena, Agnieszka, and Sandra were very knowledgeable, friendly, and adaptable. They intermixed personal stories and anecdotes that made understanding the history and culture at each place very gratifying. The accommodations were comfortable, and the locations were perfect. Eastern Europe with its old traditions and architecture, and the suppressed existence during Nazi and Russian occupations offers a very different and distinctive experience. Thanks to Jessica Clements for facilitating a unique travel itinerary.

  • Mary Ann C — April 09, 2019 — Europe

Courtney was wonderful. She worked through all of my concerns and was very flexible when Delta caused a plan change. Her responses to my requests were promptly answered and her communication with me was excellent. Petur, our guide, was a delight. We enjoyed Iceland and his thorough knowledge helped us to experience all the country had to offer.

  • John C — April 20, 2019 — Europe

Jiri, our driver/guide in Slovenia, really made our trip. He is knowledgeable, flexible, and responsive. Even has a university degree in art history! He connected many of the dots between Slovenia and what has been going on in the rest of Europe over the past centuries!

  • Diana S — May 25, 2019 — Europe

The itinerary was perfect, considering we only had 5 days to fit in this extension of our 22 day Transatlantic Cruise. Hope did a great job in coordinating for us the highlights of Sicily. All the guides and drivers are always helpful and knowledgeable from Kensington. In Agrigento, our guide was an archaeologist who teaches at universities. He had notebooks with diagrams and maps to show us exactly what we were looking at. He answered questions so thoroughly, we felt that we had a tour and a history lesson. It was amazing and the pace of all the tou

  • Kathleen K — May 15, 2019 — Europe

We enjoyed working with Jamie Boar. She was knowledgeable, communicated well, friendly, and professional. We got all we wanted from the personal tours planned and were impressed with the high quality of the guide. We will certainly use Kensington Tours again.

  • Cynthia D — April 20, 2019 — Europe

I found Kensington Tours on Google. At my first visit to the site, I was contacted immediately by Julie Couturier. She made my inquiry seem like we were having coffee, and she just happened to know everything I needed to make me choose her as my representative and travel expert. I was recommended to other tour companies, by friends, but it was Julie that made me realize Kensington was the best choice. We started our discovery in 2018 and because I was traveling with my grandchildren, I wanted to ensure the trip was perfect. We had to make changes as we went along, first because we were able to confirm a suite at the Marriott Grand Residence on Park St. with reward points. Julie was quick to make all the necessary changes in our tours. We felt privileged to have had the tour guides that Julie set for us, each one was so very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour which kept our 13 and 11 years old interested. Julie suggested a play and what child can say the saw “Matilda” in London. We certainly would not have enjoyed our trip as much if we had tried to do this on our own. Julie suggested a visit to Warner Bros Harry Potter and it was worth every moment. I would have never gone there, so congrats again to Julie. She was also able to advise us as to where to purchase groceries for our room, having lived in London previously. I have had many friends travel around the world and I don’t know of one that speaks as highly of their tour company or their travel expert the way my family has. Thank you Kensington Tours and especially Julie.

  • Rena K — April 06, 2019 — Europe

We were extremely impressed with every aspect of our trip. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. Chantal, our Destination Expert, worked with us to make sure that my physical limitations were not a problem. Each guide and driver took such good care of us. They were so knowledgeable and helpful. We plan on booking with Kensington again in the future. The service and amazing itinerary could not have been better. Thank you for memories that will last a lifetime!
