On a drizzly morning in June 1944, a wave of men 156,000 strong rolled across the English Channel. Their destination: The northern coast of France. Their mission: To take back a continent. Their legacy: The beginning of the end of a war that threatened to consume the globe. Peace would come, but many thousands of those men would not live to see it. As the setting for the greatest seaborne invasion in history, Normandy has become synonymous with World War II. The guns are quiet now; the bunkers stand empty. But the towering cliffs and sleepy seaside towns still draw those looking to reflect, to remember, and to pay homage. It remains a place that reminds visitors not only of the cost of peace but of why peace is worth fighting for.

A moving journey that combines the magic of Paris with the solemnity of Normandy, this tour begins in the Feench capital, where you’ll be treated to an insider’s glimpse of the “City of Lights” on a half-day tour of its landmarks. Later, explore the Palace of Versailles, the fascinating chateau of Louis XIV and symbol of the ancien régime. Then, head north by rail to historic Bayeux, the gateway to Normandy. Spend the next two days as you wish: exploring the D-Day Landing Museum, the American Military Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, Sainte-Mère-Église, and walking Utah and Omaha beaches in the company of a private guide. Later, go back even further in time courtesy of a full-day tour of spectacular Mont Saint-Michel, a majestic fortified island monastery and UNESCO World Heritage Site before returning to Paris for the quintessential French adieu: dinner atop the Eiffel Tower. ... Day 5: Bayeux

Meet your English speaking licensed driver-guide at the lobby of your hotel and drive to Normandy’s D-Day Beaches, where you will follow the traces of the Allies during World War II. Relive June 6, 1944, and discover what it is known as “The Longest Day”. This journey back in time will also give you the opportunity to appreciate the charm of the small villages with their old stone churches and the fortified farms that make up the Norman countryside. Start your journey with a visit of Arromanches. You can see this lovely village and the remains of the artificial harbor. Here you can visit the D-Day Landing Museum, built on the site of the artificial harbor constructed during the Second World War. Depending on your schedule and your preferences from this point in Arromanches, you can easily go on to the other landing beaches and other main World War II sites. Visit Omaha beach, the beach which is depicted in the opening scenes of Steven Spielberg's, “Saving Private Ryan”. Omaha beach witnessed the most vicious fighting of World War II. Approximately 34 000 soldiers from the 1st, 2nd and 29th Infantry Divisions landed on this beach on D-Day. The beach was covered in anti-tank and anti-landing craft obstacles. Two kilometers (1.2mi) west along the beach from Omaha is the American Military Cemetery, where the graves of 9,386 American soldiers can be found. This immense place of memory and reflection will amaze you with its calmness and serenity. You can see the graves of some of the 307 unknown soldiers or visit the resting places of the more famous, such as the Niland brothers, the family who inspired the film “Saving Private Ryan” as well as those who were awarded the Medal of Honor, one of whom is General Theodore Roosevelt Jr. Return to your hotel in Bayeux. Please speak with your guide about visiting optional sites such as: D Day museum in Arromanches, Caen Memorial, Airborne museum in Sainte Mère l’Eglise, D-Day museum in Utah Beach. Entrance fees will be paid locally.

Day 6: Bayeux

Meet your English speaking licensed driver-guide in the lobby of your hotel and start your day by visiting Sainte Mère L’Eglise. During the night of the 5th and 6th of June 1944, more than 16,000 paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions landed behind Utah Beach to assist the seaborne landings. By getting caught on the church steeple, John Steele ensured the lasting fame of the village, being immortalized in the film “The Longest Day”. These landings are commemorated in two of the stained-glass windows now to be seen in the church of Sainte Mere Eglise. Continue to Utah Beach: the first beach secured by the Allies in the early hours of Operation Overlord, Utah Beach is best known for both its light casualties and its famous commander, Theodore Roosevelt Jr, son of the President of the same name. At the site of La Madeleine, the centre of the landings on Utah, you can see the remains of the German bunkers as well as various different pieces of Allied equipment beside the monuments to the American divisions who opened the “Road of Liberty”. You will have time to enjoy lunch (not included) at leisure in a restaurant suggested by your driver-guide. Continue to the “Pointe du Hoc”. On this particularly favorable site, the Germans had built a heavy artillery battery capable of raking a wide stretch of coastline. It represented a formidable threat to the two beaches where American troops were going to land: Utah Beach to the west and Omaha Beach to the east. The overpowering of Pointe du Hoc was a long and laborious fight, with the Rangers being left to fend for themselves two days longer than had been planned. The 2nd Battalion suffered very heavy casualties during the two and a half days they were at Pointe du Hoc, only 90 of the original 225 still fighting when they were finally relieved. Finish with La Cambe. The main German Military Graveyard in Normandy, this cemetery initially started out as one of a number of temporary American cemeteries. Between the end of the war and 1947, the American bodies were transferred to the Cemetery at Omaha Beach or back to the United States. After coming in through the narrow entrance you emerge into the very somber surroundings of this place. There are more than 21,000 soldiers buried here who paid with their life for Hitler’s order to “Never Retreat, Never Surrender”. When face-to-face with these casualties of war, it will allow you to think of the German as well as the Allied losses of the Second World War. Please speak with your guide about visiting optional sites such as: D Day museum in Arromanches, Caen Memorial, Airborne museum in Sainte Mère l’Eglise, D-Day museum in Utah Beach. Entrance fees will be paid locally.

Day 7: Bayeux

Set out on a full day excursion to one of the most visited sites in all of France - the majestic Mont Saint Michel, with your private vehicle and English speaking Driver-Guide. Dating from 708, the abbey of Mont Saint Michel was one of the major pilgrimage destinations in medieval Christendom. The architecture is stunning, the location, magical, and the village, one of the quaintest in the country. You'll visit the abbey that towers at 260 feet high, and displays a number of architectural styles, Norman Romanesque and Gothic among them. Climb the stone steps to the monastery, roam through the vertical maze of chambers, and take in the beautiful light and surrounding scenery. You will have time for lunch (not included) at the Mère Poulard to taste their world famous omelette's. Afterwards you'll return to your hotel in Bayeux. (Entrances to monuments & museums, visits & possible tasting not included).

Fiona was fabulous and planned a dream vacation for us from start to finish. Our guides and tours were all very personable, knowledgeable, and comfortable. Our drivers were very punctual and professional. Our itinerary and tickets kept us knowing exactly where and when we needed to be somewhere. The weather, food and hotels were amazing. We truly had our dream vacation and now need a beach vacation to recuperate from the fast paced vacation we just returned from! Would recommend your agency to anyone! Thank You!

  • David B. — September 22, 2017 — Europe

We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our trip! Thank you for the attention to detail and comprehensive planning!

  • Cleo M. — September 22, 2017 — Europe

Excellent guidance and assistance from Rachel Cook in your Delaware office and great guides/drivers. The hotel was nicely situated and everything went smoothly - we thank you! It was our first time on such a tour and we would like to try it again.

  • Suzanne A. — September 22, 2017 — Europe

We had an amazing experience with Kensington! I loved our specialist Garret. He was incredibly helpful! We also really loved our guide in Cape Town.

  • Kyran D — September 15, 2017 — Europe

Our tour expert Rachel Cooke was outstanding! She handled all inquiries and requests with great professionalism and patience. The location of our hotels were optimal for touring and easy access to trains and metro. Tour guides Marion for the Latin Quarter, Frederick the Louvre, Bruno Mont St Michel and Melanie for the beaches of Normandy were all very knowledgeable and delightful to be with!

  • Donna O — September 15, 2017 — Europe

Andrew was an amazing guide starting in Inverness! And Debbie was great for our walking tour in Edinburgh. We could not be happier! We learned so much about Scotland and enjoyed every minute of our trip.

  • Robert Goodby — August 14, 2017 — Europe

This was one of the best trips we've ever taken. Everything worked as planned, someone was always waiting to greet us at each transfer point, and the guides in Moscow and St. Petersburg were absolutely first-rate: knowledgeable, friendly, fluent in English, and very helpful. Our conversations with them about Russian life and history were an unexpected bonus to what was already a highly educational and informative itinerary.

  • Peter Stephanos — August 14, 2017 — Europe

Kensington was top notch. Our transfers were always on-time and courteous/professional. When there was a labor strike in Athens, they rescheduled our cancelled ferry and booked us on a flight. We had no idea until they called and said we had been booked on the flight. So helpful that we didn't ever have to stress!

  • Barbara Schulman — August 14, 2017 — Europe

We had an absolutely WONDERFUL trip; Everything was perfectly planned by Kensington; all drivers were professional and the city guides were excellent, educated in the history of their city and enjoyable to be with. Upon hearing that we were artists, one guide even changed her tour to include local artworks that we would not have known about , and we were thrilled. We have never had a tour planned personally for the 2 of us, and were delighted with the results. All contacts with our planner, Jason Susinski, were timely and professional. We will definitely travel with Kensington again.

  • Nancy Silvio — August 14, 2017 — Europe

This was my first experience with a totally guided tour. It was wonderful to not have to worry about anything, it was all well planned out. What we did see was wonderful, important and the guides were knowledgeable and kind. When we expressed interest in going bowling in Berlin he made sure we found the best place!! Anything was possible.
