On a drizzly morning in June 1944, a wave of men 156,000 strong rolled across the English Channel. Their destination: The northern coast of France. Their mission: To take back a continent. Their legacy: The beginning of the end of a war that threatened to consume the globe. Peace would come, but many thousands of those men would not live to see it. As the setting for the greatest seaborne invasion in history, Normandy has become synonymous with World War II. The guns are quiet now; the bunkers stand empty. But the towering cliffs and sleepy seaside towns still draw those looking to reflect, to remember, and to pay homage. It remains a place that reminds visitors not only of the cost of peace but of why peace is worth fighting for.

A moving journey that combines the magic of Paris with the solemnity of Normandy, this tour begins in the French capital, where you’ll be treated to an insider’s glimpse of the “City of Lights” on a half-day tour of its landmarks, including a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower. Later, explore the Palace of Versailles, the fascinating chateau of Louis XIV and symbol of the ancien régime. Then, head north by rail to historic Bayeux and neighboring Audrieu, the gateway to Normandy. Spend the next two days as you wish: exploring the D-Day Landing Museum, the American Military Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, Sainte-Mère-Église, and walking Utah and Omaha beaches in the company of a private guide. Later, go back even further in time courtesy of a full-day tour of spectacular Mont Saint-Michel, a majestic fortified island monastery and UNESCO World Heritage Site before returning to Paris for the quintessential French adieu: dinner and show at the racy Moulin Rouge. ... Day 5: Audrieu

Meet your private driver-guide at your hotel and depart on a full day tour to Normandy’s D-Day Beaches, where you’ll follow in the footsteps of the Allies during World War II. Retrace the events of June 6, 1944, now recognized as “The Longest Day”. This journey back in time will also give you the opportunity to appreciate the charm of the small villages that dot the countryside of Normandy. Start with a visit of Arromanches, where you can view the remains of the artificial harbor constructed during the Second World War, now home to the D-Day Landing Museum. Visit Omaha Beach, witness to the most vicious fighting of World War II, depicted in the opening scenes of Steven Spielberg's film, Saving Private Ryan. Approximately 34,000 soldiers from the 1st, 2nd and 29th Infantry Divisions landed on this beach on D-Day, trying to breach the anti-tank and anti-landing craft obstacles. Just over a mile west along the beach from Omaha is the American Military Cemetery, where the graves of 9,386 American soldiers can be found. This immense place of memory and reflection will amaze you with its calmness and serenity. You can see the graves of some of the 307 unknown soldiers, or visit the resting places of the more famous, such as the Niland brothers, inspiration for Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan.

Please note, as WWII-themed day tours are often tailored on the spot to your personal interests or experiences, all entrances (if desired) are payable locally. Please speak with your guide about visiting optional sites such as the D-Day Museum or the Caen Memorial.

Day 6: Audrieu

Set out with your driver-guide for some exploration into World War II territory, focusing on strategic US sites. First, head to Sainte Mere L’Eglise where more than 16,000 paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions landed behind Utah Beach on The Longest Day to assist the seaborne landings. These landings are commemorated in two of the stained-glass windows now to be seen in the town’s church. Continue to Utah Beach: the first beach secured by the Allies in the early hours of Operation Overlord, best known for both its light casualties and its famous commander, Theodore Roosevelt Jr, son of the President of the same name. At the site of La Madeleine, the center of the landings on Utah, you can see the remains of the German bunkers as well as various different pieces of Allied equipment beside the monuments to the American divisions who opened the “Road of Liberty”. Continue to Pointe du Hoc where a German-built heavy artillery battery represented a formidable threat to Utah Beach to the west and Omaha Beach to the east, where American troops were going to land. The overpowering of Pointe du Hoc was a long and laborious fight, leading to heavy casualties for the 2nd Battalion. Finish with La Cambe, initially one of a number of temporary American cemeteries, now the somber final resting place of over 21,000 German soldiers who paid with their life following Hitler’s order to “Never Retreat, Never Surrender”.

Please note, as WWII-themed day tours are often tailored on the spot to your personal interests or experiences, all entrances (if desired) are payable on the spot.

Day 7: Audrieu

Set out on a full day excursion to one of the most visited sites in all of France - the majestic Mont Saint Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with your private vehicle and English speaking driver-guide. Dating back to the year 708 AD, the abbey of Mont Saint Michel was one of the major pilgrimage destinations in medieval Christendom. The architecture is stunning, the location magical, and the village, one of the quaintest in the country. The final stretch of your near 2.5 hour drive through historic Normandy will be like that of a mirage, approaching the fairytale-like Mont Saint Michel, which from a distance seems to be floating almost in mid-air. On arrival, you'll have a visit of the Gothic and Norman Romanesque abbey, which at 260 feet high towers over the village. You can climb the stone steps to the monastery, roam through the vertical maze of chambers, and take in the beautiful light and surrounding scenery. Lose yourself in the charm of this medieval village before returning to Audrieu at the end of the day.

Day 8: Audrieu - Paris

Meet your private driver-guide and vehicle for a transfer to Paris, making a detour en route to discover Rouen, rich in its history as one of the most successful cities of medieval Europe. Take in the magnificent 16th century facade of the Gothic Rouen Cathedral, an image which renowned painter Claude Monet would paint many times over his career. Another main sight worth catching is the Gros Horloge, one of the oldest clock movements remaining in France, built over a Renaissance archway in the historic center. You can even stand in Place du Vieux Marche, infamous site of Joan of Arc's pyre, on May 30th, 1431. After your break in Rouen, you'll continue onward to Paris.

Meet your private driver for a transfer to the world-renowned Moulin Rouge, where you'll sit back and be treated to dinner and grand spectacle: the dazzling song and provocative burlesque-inspired dance of the Feerie show. This show consists of a troupe of 80 artists including 60 Doriss Girls recruited worldwide, and hundreds of costumes designed of colorful feathers, glittering rhinestones and shining sequins, created in the most famous Parisian workshops. Marvel at the lavish sets and backgrounds that feature shimmering colors, uniquely designed by popular Italian artists, while enjoying a three-course meal and 1/2 bottle of wine per person. After the show, your private transfer will return you to your hotel.

Please note, with the provocative, burlesque-inspired content of this show, it may not be suitable for all viewers. Personal discretion is advised.

Fantastic tour that met all our special requests! Our anniversary celebration was perfect! Our grandchildren made so many memories from playing in the fields of the farm to sailing through the fjords and eating desserts at all the bakeries! A marvellous intergenerational experience!

  • Julie S — July 05, 2019 — Europe

Thank you to Daniel for making our family’s trip to Greece so enjoyable and memorable. We asked him for an “Instagram” worthy trip, and he delivered! The hotels on the islands were stunning, and our private tour guides at each stop easily accommodated our individual wishes. Our trip was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration.

  • Elizabeth B — July 20, 2019 — Europe

I cannot tell you how impressed we were with your services. Everything from the drivers to the hotels to guides was five stars! We never had to wait in line and were treated like royalty. I highly recommend the private boat ride/tour to Capri. It was fabulous! We had never been to Italy and left feeling like we learned so much. We fell in love with the people and culture. We cannot wait to have Kensington book our next adventure.

  • Kimberly E — July 14, 2019 — Europe

It was the first time we have used a company of this nature to manage our bookings. Most often I book my rooms, and tours, but after this experience, I would definetely use Kensington again for a trip of this type. Our Destination truly supported us and allowed us to make changes until the plan was just perfect for us. This truly showed when we were in country and everthing went off perfectly. I was worried to have other book items on my families behalf seeing as we were traveling with kids (age 8 and 10), but I feel our destination Expert did take that into account and it was perfect.

There is so much to say about this amazing family trip to northern Spain we just came home from, but in short, the trip was even more than we could have hoped for - From the planning to the tour guides, drivers and accommodations our needs were met and in most cases surpassed. There is no way the trip could have been as successful without the help of Maryanne from Kensington Tours and her team.

  • Sara L — June 29, 2019 — Europe

Our Iceland trip was fantastic. From planning with Melissa (many times over until we had it right) to being greeted in Iceland and all of the wonderful tours we took, we had a fabulous time. Our guide, Sigga, was excellent. She guided us, told us tales of Iceland, was extremely accommodating with my elderly mom. We enjoyed being with her very much. Inke, our guide to the glacier, was also wonderful. We had a great time and felt Kensington did a fabulous job. Thanks!

  • Dawn K — July 18, 2019 — Europe

The trip overall was amazing and all the activities and travel plans went so very smoothly. Our whole familiy really enjoyed every day of the trip. Patrick McCallion, the expert from your agency who helped us, was awesome! He not only set up everything perfectly for us but helped us with reservations for dinners at fine dining places and answered many questions we had in advance. We did leave our glasses in the van at one point in Barcelona and had to contact the local agent who quickly retrieved the glasses for us without any problem. We highly recommend this agency given the quality of the experience, the smoothness of the itinerary, and the flexibility to tailored the experience to our needs. Thank

This was our 6th Kensington tour. We have gone as a couple on trips and taken our children sometimes to destinations all over the world. We have never been disappointed and have had the most personal and professional service. We would not even consider using anyone else. Thank you Alania for everything! Our most recent trip to Russia and Scandinavia was fabulous and perfectly planned!
