Dresden’s residents love their Striezelmarkt. Since 1434, the market has preserved its distinctive character despite a few changes. The world’s largest Erzgebirge step pyramid, which made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records in 1999, is 14.62 meters tall and can be seen far and wide. More than 2.5 million people visit the romantic Altmarkt Square every year. The market’s name comes from Stollen, the well-known Christmas bread, which is also known as "Striezel" in Middle High German. Every year, the traditional "Stollen festival" is celebrated in honor of this delicacy. Every year, the ceremonial first slice of the giant Stollen at the Striezelmarkt is followed by a Stollen procession through the Baroque Old Town. Today, visitors can expect a varied assortment of culinary delicacies and traditional products. The folk art of the Erzgebirge region is an essential feature – loving craftsmanship produces miniature pyramids, Räuchermänner ("smoking men") and other small figurines. Another symbol of Dresden is the "Pflaumentoffel". These good-luck charms, made of dried plums, represent the little boys who cleaned the chimneys. Opening times and hours: Nov 27 - Dec 24, 2016 (10:00 am-9:00 pm) except Dec 24th from (10 am-2:00 pm).

  • Irene Y. — September 13, 2018 — Europe

This trip was just what we were looking for, a private tour of England, Scotland and Dublin. Julie C. was awesome! She and I worked together to figure out what my family and I wanted to do. I could have never done it without her! The cars/guides were waiting at the airport for us. Everyone associated with Kensington Tours was so helpful and kind. The location of the 3 hotels, we stayed in, were amazing!! We walked everywhere! Each tour, we were scheduled for, went smoothly, and on time. The tour guides were so smart and informative about the places we went. I didn't stand in one hotel concierge line. My tickets and vouchers were printed out and in hand ahead of time. Julie even researched and scheduled horseback riding in the Dublin Mountains, which they hadn't handled before. What a highlight that was!! This trip was everything I asked for. I will be using Kensington Tours and Julie again!!

  • Lesley M. — September 04, 2018 — Europe

We thoroughly enjoyed our entire trip to Greece. Everything went as planned, our hotels met and exceeded our expectations. The tour guides were all marvelous - knowledgeable, personal, patient, organized and pleasant to be with. And our sunset cruise in Santorini was superb - first class catamaran, crew and their other passengers were great to be with. We met a couple who also were frequent Kensington Tours clients and we all agreed you are our top choice when it comes to travel tours. Thank you for another unforgettable trip!
